To "repentor"

I'm sorry you can't make it work, I don't quite understand what you ended up doing, but anyways.. telling by the fact that the updater doesn't recognize your phone I'm guessing you didn't install the driver correctly, pobably the first time you installed the updater you had your phone conected and that caused a porblem with the installation of the driver. I'm not an expert but that's my best guess.

You can still take it to Nokia's service center and they should install the software for free, if you have a service center near by.

Best of lucks,

Vicky

to vicy i hav done all what u said but the does not start only nokia written and hangs also not recognised by updater says no fone connected.I think i hav to flash it done from company cost 50 $ then install new software, I concluded there is no apperant use of update it works as before for years even not updated we should not do it as internet speed dowloading might miss some 1kb of file. i hav SE S700 2004 jan software still perfect working.Repenting to have taken RISK.

To the person with the updateing problem:

The update is 60mb, so I'm guessing your download didn't go all the way through.

Try doing it from a different computer or uninstall the Nokia updater and try again.

Remember not to have your phone connected to the computer while installing "Nokia Software updater" for you pc. Once you have installed this program in you computer, you will be required to connect your nokia phone to the computer via usb and the Nokia Updater will recognize your phone and search for an update for your device. That's when you actually download the update for your phone, that's 60mb.

Again, remember to fully back up your data with the Nokia PC Suite, cause all info will be erased. Then you restore it all by using the back up.

                Cheers,

                Vicky

                    SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR E65 AVAILABLE

FINALLY the software update is now available, visit nokia website.

I did it and it went through just fine, but then I started having some trouble using the WLAN feature, at the begining I coulnd't get it to work but miraculously it started working again. So I don't know if the update had something to do with it or what.

For the rest, the update added a wizard and another app called active keys.

I haven't had too many problems with my device in this 3 months, although I've experienced the very popular "self-resetting" once, and even the "out of the blue battery drain", also once. I can't tell if the update addressed these issues cause it's only been 3 days since I updated it, but it seemed to have improved a little bit the lagg in response.

Remember, BEFORE you update the software, make a FULL BACK UP of your data using the Nokia PC Suite, and be aware that any third party program that you may have installed it will need to be resintalled after the update cause the full back up doesn't work for applications, only data (pictures, messages, contacts, notes, calendar entris, etc).

                    Hope this info helps out,

                    Cheers,

                    Vicky

                          UPDATE SPOILLED WLAN CONFIG????

I just installed the update through the nokia updater and it seems to have spoilled the WLAN, I can't get it to work anymore.. anyone had the same problem with the update? I used to work just fine. It does detect the signal but when trying to start browser or any other wlan application it says "no gateway response". Any thoughts are apreciated.

                          Thanks,

                          Vicky

I've had an E-65 for about a week now. I always carry with me 3 fones, whether in the house or out. And this is the newest of the 3, the other 2 being at least 3 & 4 years old (6230i and 6230, respectively). The E-65 replaced my 4 yr-old 6100.

When i decided i wanted to be able to e-mail/surf/shop on-line in the house or in WIFI hotspots & make VOIP calls, as well, all via WLAN, I was convinced this was the fone for me. Since the above services' costs range from "free-of-charge" in the case of my home network to "very minimal" in the case coffeeshop WIFI hotspots, the WLAN feature was the only reason I got the E-65 fone, in the first place, considering I carry 2 others, which I use for in-bound & out-bound calls.

E-mailing/surfing at home (on my home network): works very, very well (no need to turn on the desktop, the monitor, and the AVR) just whip out the fone!!. Why not excellent?? Because I still have to enter my user name and password (which can't be remembered or can it?? Pls. help!!) in "Microsoft Outlook Web Access." However, it's very understandable considering I'm only accessing it (e-mail) via the web, and not via SMTP & POP3 servers.

Here comes the bummerS PLURAL. Shopping on-line: after logging on to my favorite on-line merchant, I was asked to enter my username and password, which I submitted. An error message from merchant then asks me to "enable cookies," which I subsequently did. I repeated the process, and yet, still the same error message. The same vicious cycle occurred 5 out of the 5 times I tried. It might be worth noting that the "allow" option for cookies IS REMEMBERED as indicated by the fact that the "allow" option REMAINS AS IS and DOES NOT revert to "DISALLOW." Pls. help!!

E-mailing/surfing at WIFI hotspots: since many of WIFI hotspots use pop-ups as a venue where u enter the username and password which you buy from that hotspots' cashier via a prepaid card which you scratch to see the username and password, I wasn't able to perform the above activity, as there were no pop-ups (to enter the username and password into). Even if i go to MENU > WEB > OPTIONS > SETTINGS > BLOCK POP-UPS > NO, as per user guide, within seconds or minutes, the NO I chose invariably reverts to YES, no matter what I did: re-boot, standby, back!! Pls. help!!

VOIP CALLING: although the E-65 has a built-in GIZMO VOIP software, I'm not sure if it (E-65) supports my two (2) VOIP service providers--FREECALL and VOIPSTUNT, both of which I'd like to install into it, cuz am not willing to shell out money for a 3rd one!! Pls. help on how I can do (all of) the above!! Anyone???

So for those of you who carry a fone for calling and only want a 2nd (or 3rd) fone solely for replacing that trusty laptop to (bring to) your everyday WIFI hotspot, the E-65 is not the fone for you, esp. if the hotspot requires you to enter username and password in a pop-up window. Unless of course, there's someone out there who can help me?? PLEASE??

To sum it up: Do I like it?? Yes, I like its looks. I share the partiality of those who liked its slim, ergonomic appearance. I don't have any of the other problems people here (in the forum) have, like the dust (not yet, at least), the non-lighting keypad, re-booting, re-starting, nor the beard getting stuck upon sliding down the phone (am clean-shaven).

Do I like its camera, MP3, Office, GPRS, EDGE, EGPRS, video calling? Those aren't the reason why I bought it, so I can't say I like it cuz of them!

Did it perform as I thought and hoped it would?? Yes, but only in the area of being able to surf/e-mail at (my) home or in a friend's or neighbor's or relative's home network, provided they share the network key if their network is restricted!!

For those who want to address my issues, I would be very much obliged, and please do send me a copy at my address: dnkkk@pldtdsl.net

                                    Thanks in advance,

                                    Dennis
