whts da newest firmware of nokia e70?! wht has been improve in da newest firmware? is it gd 2 upgrade cuz i heard sum ppl sed da newest firmware is harmful 2 da fone. thanx

nokia will never release a firmware update in future with same sound volume as i asked their customer service support they said that the sound volume in first firmware was voilating some Legal patent restriction or bla bla .... stupid nokia and international policies.

Dear Arslan,
Thanks for your valuable comments and information. I shall wait for any new firmware update by Nokia in which the
Sound Volume do not gets affected, till
then I will continue to use old firmware (Original with phone = 1.0610.05.07)
and listen to my music.

yes with the latest updates in firmware nokia ditched e70 sound volume .. its very low .. but the other improvements are quite valuable to upgrade.. the latest firmware is nov 2006 3.10.x.x.xxx . if u hear lots of music on this set which u shud not coz this set is not N series its for serious work. like office apps n voip . but if u listen songs a lot then don't change original firmware 1.x.x.xxx use it njy music with slow landscape to potrait switching n memory loss problems.. i dunt like music so i have no problem with latest firmware.

how do you do a soft re-boot on this phone (without switching off??)
what does a phone reset do??
(Phone reset: power off the phone, hold # + 3 + CALL and power on the phone)
tried the phone reset steps above and i did not notice any difference

Dear Arslan & any one who cud help,
I’m still using version 2 of e-70 firmware. My last check with website (using Nokia Software Updater) stated that I do not need to upgrade. Where can we get the version 3?
I’ve been having constant memory problem. Especially after I opened up my SMS msg, and want to immediately delete it. It will give the “memory full…” message.
Another problem I usually get while surfing is “web: no gateway reply” – not sure who’s problem this is
I’m trying to set up VOIP on the phone. Have u tried truphone or Fring?? Which is better?

Thanks for your information on firmware updates of E-70.
Please confirm that the version of firmware you mentioned is really latest version ?
Because it is Nov.-2006 mentioned.
Also please confirm that after this update the sound level is loud enough as same as Original firmware ? Because in my Brothers Piece E70 firmware was updated then all tones as well as Mp3 files were low enough to not been able to listen even at highest volume levels.
By this I never changed my firmware for above problems.

i m an e70 user too for past one year ...
first of all 6280 is symbian but its not from the s60 family its frim s40 which means just ok features no match with s60 ...
rest ppl who are facing mmc problems like detection and unistall problems ...i will suggest them to flash their phon live from nokia website its current version is
3.0633.09.04

its risky to flash ur set without a ups and a reliable internet connection but this version is worth it ....
just flash ur phone ... format ur mmc and start a fresh ..no more problems i had em once i was using 2.xxxx firmware..
u can mail me for some other problemz
this firmware solves many problems like soft reboot of phone on adhoc wifi disconnection and slow sms and slow switching form landscape to potrait mode and viceversa..

the nokia E70 is one of the best phones out very strong internet.the screen is really clean the phone have most of the features out there just keep it in good condition and this phones will please most of ur needs n a good speaker my uncle as a p990 n the E70 really stands up the dat phone i have it for 4monts now n it works very fine just get a big memeroy card n live tv n lcg jukebox with internet radio n u set

E70 is definatley a wicked and awswome phone.out of all the qwerty phones i have had from nokia, this rocks all.i have but only 1 problem with the phone and the memeory card will randomly uninstall itself and then i must take it out and reenter it into the phone and sometimes i must do this multiple times for the phone to pick it up. any solutions?

Nokia E70 is the most powerfull phone for access the web! Your qwerty keyboard is perfect for type long texts, e-mails and talking in IM aplications.

you can go on an IM service like yahoo or AIM via wifi on the phone, but you need to download an application for it. there are a few apps that do this, most have free trials, all of them cost money (like 40-80usd) to have and to hold forever.

i want to buy this phone but i was wondering if i am connected to the internet through WiFi then when i use an instant messenger (aim,yahoo) will the messages go through WiFi or from the service provider internet! i mean can i log on the instant messenger with WiFi connection?????plz help!! thank you.

If you want a phone that has got a very effective office application and you've a lot to do with internet, I think Nokia E70 is the best option for you. joystick has a problem but altogether E70 is a device which satisfied me.

I've had my e70 for 2 months and really pleased with it.
I've never owned a smartphone before. The usual brick formfactor didn't appeal to me. The e70 just looks like a normal phone, and yet hides a very effective full qwerty keyboard.
The 2 features I am absolutely hooked on both usethe phone's wifi capabilities (aka wlan)
- voip: there's a number of equivalents to skype out there for this phone (skype themselves have decided not to support symbian phones. Boooooh!) I've downloaded truphone. It integrates really seamlessly with the phone native features: green call key, address book, etc
This is the real reason I bought the phone: to avoid rip off roaming charges. Just divert your incoming mobile calls to your voip number and receive calls anywhere in the world that has wifi coverage.
- browsing: the surprisingly high resolution screen combined with the clever keyboard and the decent broswer makes browsing even complex web pages a pleasure. I no longer just "check" my email daily but actually use the phone as my main email platform using standard gmail (note gmail have recently frustratingly decided to serve a cut down mobile version of the site by default. I have to click back on Full HTML every time)
downsides:
The joystick is already showing signs of wear.metalic paint flaking off. It does get used a lot every day - nearly as much as my pc mouse,but that should't happen just after 8 weeks.
The form factor would be great for games, if only the games supported it!
I've dowloaded 2 games so far. Neither of them work unless the keyboard is closed and in normal phone mode. Shame...

As per i see it, all the N series of nokia are doing quite bad after sometime of using of atleast 5 to 6 months.I agree the features are good,but the durability and the value of the money is gone only after 5 to 6 months !
