Hi "meng",

YES! E70 is all the followings ...
a) Big-ish
b) Bulky to carry in pants
c) Slipery to hold
d) Kind-a Heavy too !

I find it almost impossible NOT TO DROP IT. After accidentally dropped it while still brand new ... I bought some non-slip stick-on and covered most of the back of the phone.

I do continue to get occassional "LOOK & STARE" from follow passengers. As my DIY looked really out-of-place.

Not much of a choice, it's TOO NEW! E70 holder & accessories hasn't arrived on the market yet.

So I carried mine inside a Nokia N-GAGE case.
It's a good fit.

      Felix:

I sure do appreciate your time to reply on my inquiry and glad to know that a 2 gb kingston mini sd works good as well. I've ordered the 2 gb sandisk recently and your reply sure is very promising, now i couldn't wait for it to come... e70 owners: although i'm not affiliated in anyway w/ sandisk co., i would highly recommend it because the 1 gb mini sd i got which is other than sandisk couldn't even open my video... kingston brand, per felix is another one good mini sd.
      aloha!

            > To would be E70 buyer... MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE COME WITH THE PACKAGED "64MB MiniSD" CARD. ELSE YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE MISSING OUT. Test your phone with this card inserted !!!

            > Hi "Ranger",

YES!!! Is it really "surfing the net (using notebook) anywhere you wish to" experience.

But using BlueTooth connection will drain both NoteBook & E70 battery packs. Best to connect using the free "Type:CA-53 USB cable" that came with E70.

            > Hi "sandro",

You don't need to have front camera to qualify as a 3G phone! Just that the other person can't see you, but they can still see what your rear camera is pointing at.

Here's the technical jargons on H263...

Basically, when you make Video Calls using your 3G phones, H263 is the codec used. When you send MMS ... the video clips will most probably in MPEG4 format. Various .MP4 implementations are QuickTime, 3GPP, Real Media etc...

"The H.263 codec is a high quality lossy interframe codec with a quality and compression ratio comparable with MPEG-4. It can be used for video-conferencing or for compressing large files.

H.263 is an ITU standard, designed for low bitrate communication such as video-conferencing and video-telephony applications. At the same time it can be used for a wide range of bitrates, and not just low bitrates. H.263 is a hybrid of interframe compression that makes use of temporal redundancy and intraframe transform coding to use spatial redundancy as an compression advantage. Accordingly, a superior compression ratio can be achieved in comparision to other video codecs."

More confused?! :) You asked for it!

I just got my E70. it's a really good phone only there are some areas that need upgrades. firmware could possibly take care of that. I mean i had the 6800 and you know when you switch from the standard keypad to the integrated keyboard, it never took so long 4 d screen to switch but on d E70 it is a TOTAL CATACLYSM. apart from that i would never change it. d joystick couldn't be better.

Was wondering if anyone has the model that is designed specifically here in the states, the 850mhz model? I called the Nokia store in Chicago and they have a few in stock.

I am with Cingular and wanted to know if the unlocked version will work ok with Cingular? Anyone that is using this currently in the States, please give me feedback.

I am thinking about purchasing this unlocked version, or maybe waiting for Cingular to hopefully carry it...

                  Thanks,

hows the quality of the video recording in Nokia E70 camera?
what's the difference between H263 video format and MP4? whatt does H263 means?
Is there anyway that you can still use video calling even though it has no front camera?
I really want to buy this phone.
                    thanks

                      Hi Felix,

Thanks for your comments. I'm carrying around my PDA HP IPAQ 2490. However it kept me hunting from one hotspot to another when i need to respond to e-mail etc.

I also carry my notebook with me for trips lasting a few nights or when going to places i feel secure carrying it.

I needed the E70 to be my modem to go on GPRS/EDGE/3G connection.

Have you tried using your phone as modem for your notebook?? If yes, is it convenient? Is it really "surfing the net (using notebook) anywhere you wish to" experience??

BTW, i'm very dissapointed with my IPAQ 2490. Battery life is ridiculous.

A shop in Low Yat Plaza, KL quoted me RM1,600 for E70 recently. Original, new with warranty. I backed out since i need to see its review prior to committing, as i do not wish it to become my IPAQ sob story.

has anyone updated with the latest Firmware yet?

I played with it at the Nokia Flagship store in Chicago. I noticed there is an horribly long delay in switching from Normal view to Landscape view and also switching between program menus.

Is anyones running quickly? i want to buy it but it seems reallly slow.

                            Hi "Ranger",

I normally only spend 1 hr each (post check in, pre-take off) idle time in both KLIA and local airport. 6 trips to KL last month hence 12 hours. Addtional 2 hours flight time.

                            Here's my success thus far;
                            0) Seamless Web Access (with java & pop-up enabled)

                            1) Web access to both my Jaring & TMNet a/c

                            2) My corporate e-mail = MS Outlook Web Access !!! FlawLESS !!! Read & reply mail on the go.

                            3) Internet browsing using GPRS/EDGE and 3G (have tried with both my 012 & 019 3G sim cards) But I prefer using just WiFi.

                            4) PDF reader font is amazingly crisp (at any magnifications). I carry a complete PDF version NIV Bible in my miniSD card. Technical manuals etc.
But there's PDF size limitation. I split up all my original PDF files into multipe chapters of smaller PDF files for error free reading.

                            5) Word, Excel & Powerpoint supported (Office 2003 compatible) I used it to review my presentation materials.

                            6) MMS & Video calls are functional.

                            7) Watch movies & listen to music

                            8) Install additional S60 3rd apps (limited apps right now, more to arrive by year end)

                            9) Sync with my notebook PC via both cable & bluetooth. Both are FAST!

E70 is certainly adequate, but don't expect miracle. I used to carry my HP hx4700 PDA, but I'm more fond of my E70 ... at least for now ... until Nokia churn out something better.

For you info, both the PDF reader & Web browser on E70/N80 are far more superior to those available on Windows Mobile. That's the main compeling reason I made this switch.

                              Felix...

I read your postings abt being in KLIA for 6 hrs, airport etc, travelling... you may be the person i should talk to regarding E70.

                              Just need to clarify;

i consider myself a road warrior who will need:

                              1. Seamless internet connectivity
                              2. Access to gmail, yahoo mail and my company's email (xxxxx.com.my)
                              3. Internet browsin using GPRS/EDGE and 3G
                              4. Open attachment .PDF, MS Office files and edit them
                              5. Able to MMS.

Can the E70 do all the above??

When I bought this phone it had so much promise, 3G, full QWERTY keyboard, Hi-Res Screen, and much more. However when I received it, one of it's problems was immediate to me. The BLUETOOTH on here SUCKS!!! I am forever having problems with it, losing connection with my headset, not connecting, not able to turn the volume up... Just some of the many problems with it. Also I have a UConnect Handsfree system in my truck, and my last phone, a Sony-Ericsson S710a it worked just fine, I turned the key on, the system connected, and everything just worked. Not the Nokia, I must physically tell the phone to connect to the UConnect, not a good thing, and not seamless. The bluetooth is my biggest concern, but not the only. The phone has problems sometimes that are only cured by turning it off and back on again. It locks on up, and is very slow all around. My finally compliant, while not Nokia's or the phone's fault, is USA not using the 2100 Mhz spectrum that UMTS is defined for and used worldwide, except here, once again we can't just do like everyone else and be happy.

Sean, a unsatisfied Nokia E70 owner.

                                  Hi "andy",

I have been using both SanDisk & Kingston MiniSD, both 2 GB version. Both equally fast problem free. I also double them as my personal "PC USB drive" for my PC file transfer using a compact MiniSD USB reader.

SanDisk card for my ".3gp" movies files,
Kingston card for my ".mp3" music files.

This month alone I spent 6 hours of idling time in KLIA airport, another 6 hours of waiting time at local airport, 12 hours of flying time and lots of window shopping time in between. So you can see just how much personal time I've spent with my E70.

Believe Me! My E70 has literally grown on me ... or is it the other way round.

Good fun. Great trouble free surfing (remember to frequently clear your cookies & cache files). Fantastic mobile entertainment (movies & music). Never freeze on me yet.

                                  BUT I DO NEED HELP.

Can someone recommend a 4 inch square shaped magnifier for my E70 screen? Where can I get one? Similar to those available for GameBoy or PlayStation Portable... HIGHLY APPRECIATED.

The TINY SCREEN is a really EYE STRAINER.

                                    this phone/pda is amazing...
video is great even the sound quality. if you have the right software you can play most of your dvd collection while on the go... tried other brand of mini sd but sandisk mini sd fat32, at least 1 gb, is a lot faster & worth the money. I was wondering if anyone has tried a 2gb sandisk? any problems? any input will help...
