Windows 10 up to branch 1709 (Jan 2020) is available and working. This phone can be upgraded to that and you'll gave access to quite a few big apps still.

Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile are both no longer supported, no more updates (not even security updates)
Many apps are no longer supported on Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile.
WhatsApp for example, the Microsoft Office mobile apps also (but you can still use old versions, I think)
Last time I checked, Telegram still works on this phone, but it's an old version, it no longer gets updates
Skype can work but it's too heavy for the phone, at least the Windows 10 version...
I flashed Windows 10 Mobile on mine, but it's unsupported too
I have the variant which has 512MB of RAM, and many Windows 10 Mobile apps (games, or even... Skype, some modern websites, the camera app or the maps app 🤦🏻♂️) need more RAM, and crash when you try to use them
Windows Phone 8.1 is more adequate (less heavy apps and OS), and is the only OS the 512MB RAM variant supports, I think
I think I could reset my phone to Windows Phone 8.1 using the Windows software Nokia provides on their website

Using Different Method To Force Update Windows 10 (Mobile). Technically, Only Way Is To Read Forum To Do Bypass. Facing Hard Brick Problems Completed Dead Fried OS (Resolve With (WDRT) Took A Lot Of Steps To Grind For Solution Using WDRT Via CMD, Face Trial & Error . Finally Updated To Windows 10 (Mobile) 635 (*512MB*).

This phone is by far the perfect choice as the Microsoft 8.1 works well and has the best map and navigation system there is. All other phones are junk except maybe for nerds that all they want to do is stupid games.

Good phone just a shame Microsoft could not keep Windows OS going as honestly its better than Android, no laggy web page loading , smooth video playback etc, and the lumia phones were good phones, problem is the marketing was done all wrong anyway this phone is a great alternative to the Motorolas and Alcatels of the world , wouldnt use one of those if you paid me to.

Limited Apps with limited updates including fake apps. A phone without entertainment except for the social media or internet. Useful when calling and texting. A lot of apps which are not compatible for this phone. This phone doesn't have much uses and if you plan on buying this phone, make sure the user is someone who doesn't spend much time with the social media.

1st cell,$85 in 8/14, just perfect phone. Navigated UK 2 weeks no problem! Still all original and working! Don't get much more for $1K.

Big thanks to Nokia engineers to make phone that fits in the pocket, has very bullseye touch sensitivity and everybody notice the design. Sold[at]. bought used lumia830 (bad mic)...

Still using a Nokia Lumia 635 in 2018. Works fine, even with Windows 10 (1511) in a 512K phone. Yes, it was a hack - upgraded during the brief period when it was possible via Windows Insider. Still on the original battery, too. I wish I could find as well-built and -supported Android phone to replace it now that all support (except the Jan.2018 security fix) has ended for W10/1511 - but the upgrade did get me almost an extra year of support over 8.1 Cyan (the last officially supported Windows on the T-Mobile phone). Even mid-grade Androids have serious downchecks, and cheap ones well-deserve the "cheap" moniker. The 635 wasn't cheap; it was inexpensive.

For such a cheap phone, the Nokia 635 is surprisingly decent. I have used mine since December of 2014, and it's served me well for nearly three years. The thing's about as durable as the rocks I've dropped it on numerous times, and I like the OS. In short, the phone itself is excellent. The main problem lies in the support- the phone is no longer updated, and the app store is pretty barren. That's the main reason that I'm switching to an iPhone next month. If you care at all about apps, this isn't a good choice. If you're looking for an inexpensive phone that can do just about anything else a smartphone should be able to do, it is.
