The North American consumers are once again ditched. No WCDMA-850MHz version. No real NAM version, just like the N82.

I think Nokia can easily create a very big market and attract a LOT of customers by making the following:
- N82 with NAM frequencies, or even better, quadband WCDMA
- FP2
- Larger battery
- FM transmitter

That's really all I need. And I think a lot of people will agree with me.

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Go for the Nokia N86. Trust me you wont be disappointed. I also considered the Eriscon W995 and the INNOV. I'll probably get this phone at the end of July. Between now and then, I'll save up more. I'm going to part exchange it with my Nokia 5800. I crave buttons. Once you get a Nokia, they have you on lock (addicted). This means it is difficult to try another brand as Nokia is the most user friendly.

i got the N86 for a couple of days already. I think it is the most beautiful Nseries phone to day: the front is like a dark gemstone framed by a dark metallic rim; the back has a soft 'talcum' like cover that is similar to the N95 classic's. The slide is fine but can be better -- wish it could be as sharp as the E66's slide. The menu button on the left has a wonderful touch in that there seems to be numerous small holes on the button allowing light through creating a nice effect. All in all, the phones speaks class because of the materials used.

The soft keys are good and the Dpad is fantastic -- one of the best from Nokia. It is interesting in that i cannot really see the Confirm key but yet the press feels so right. The number pad is good by N series standards (fantastic compared to N79/N85/96) and is almost as good as N95 in terms of travel. In its favour over N95 is that the buttons are distinctly separated so it easy to type without looking at numberpad.

My big gripe: to remove the microsd card, you need to remove the back cover. And removing the back cover is just a pain: there is no release button like on N79/N85 but you have pry it open like some cheap phone.

Camera: the wide angle lens is great! seems like 20-30% more things captured in each picture.

so far, no hanging or lagging of any sort (touch wood).

Hi guys, I've waited ages for this piece of art. I thought I would have to wait until July 22nd. Thank God it has been released now rather than later. It is on the UK Nokia website and costs £399 - $656 - E467.
People always complain about the looks but get a grip and look deeper. I think it has natural beauty as opposed to obvious Beyonce-Megan Fox - Iphone outright trophy girlfriend looks. I currently have a Nokia 5800 (Touchscreen) but can't stand touchscreen despite my 5800 being a tremendous phone. I've had it since April but miss buttons as a big mobile gamer. I used to have a Nokia N95 8 GIG (arguablys Nokia best ever phone) and miss it. This N86 will be an ideal replacement with a better camara. You can't go wrong with Nokia can you. Nokia for life.

Mike, 11 Jun 2009I think Omnia hd uses a 600mhz processor. The 434 mhz proc... moreOMAP 3xxx series uses single-core CPU's as of now for cellphones. The TDP of dual-cores is too high for them to be good alternatives as of now.. (Already Cortex-A8 consumes about 0.59mW/Mhz vs 0.38mw/Mhz on the ARM11)

The old Nokia's used to use a Dual ARM11 or Dual ARM9 processor.. Both of the cores were not computational in this case.. One was dedicated exclusively for telephony and only the other was available for general purpose computation.. So the higher clocked single core variants (which can do both on 1 core thanks to improved multi-threading) are actually better in performance..

                            So 434 Mhz ARM11> 369 Mhz ARM11 > Dual 332 Mhz ARM11

Of course these are raw performance figures. Clever engineering via highly tuned firmware may make a whole lot of difference to the actual user experience.

Mike, 11 Jun 2009I think Omnia hd uses a 600mhz processor. The 434 mhz proc... moreYeah Mike you are right.. The OmniaHD uses a 600 Mhz ARM Cortex-A8 processor. The SOC it uses is a TI OMAP 3430 containing a PowerVR SGX GPU..

The new iPhone 3GS too uses a similar SOC (though this is designed by Samsung and not TI).. The Nokia N86 and the N97 use a ARM11 434 Mhz CPU.. They do not have dedicated 3D hardware and do support 3D (Even some Java API's for the same) but only via software..

Some of the newly announced (yet to be launched) Nokias like 5630XM, E52 etc. are powered by a 600Mhz ARM11 processor.

The Cortex-A8 is ARM's new micro-arch which is supposed to have 2x the performance of ARM11 clock for clock and can also be supposedly clocked higher as it has a deeper pipeline (13 vs 8 stages).. These processors also feature a L2 cache additionally apart from the L1 found on the older cores..

We don"t seem to get news from Nokia or anyone bragging that this is a Top Class Mobile to purchase,as i would like to see a review of the finished version of the N86 before deciding if its worth it Value this mobile,as i tried the N85 out until i read a review saying the phone was very unstable an the slide very unstable after a couple of use,so hope the N86 does not do the same thing, hope to see a review soon,as i have seen no better phone than the N95 8gb on the market yet
