Nokia updates the 68xx line
Nokia today announced the 6822, the latest addition to its line of messaging devices and an update to the Nokia 6820. The phone has a lot in common with the old 6820 and the upgraded features include a VGA camera, high-resolution display of 65,536 colors within 128 x 128 pixels, and Java™ MIDP2.0.
The compact messaging device supports a wide range of e-mail and instant messaging solutions i.e. IMAP4, POP3 SMTP, SyncML and BlackBerry Connect; management (PIM) capabilities and wireless data synchronization. The tri-band phone operates in GSM/GPRS/EGPRS networks.
The camera in the Nokia 6822 messaging device is a VGA one with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. There is also a self- timer and four different modes to choose from: standard photo, portrait photo, night mode, and video recording.
The supported sound formats are polyphonic ring tones (MIDI), Nokia Ring Tones (monophonic tones), SP-MIDI, and AMR.
It is possible to synchronize the calendar, contacts, notes and to-do list with a compatible PC using Bluetooth connectivity, infrared or data cable, while the xHTML Internet browsing is secure enough with SSL/TLS encrypted connection.
The user will enjoy the 3.5 MB memory on the phone. It is shared with several functions and is dependent on the data quantity per item and shared memory available at a time.
The company plans to make the Nokia 6822 available in the first quarter of 2005 in Europe and the Americas.

Way better than a clunky Blackberry or Treo. I don't use the email function, just calendaring and ocassional IM. All I want is to be able to schedule meetings and read my notes for directions to the appointment. This phone rocks.
