NOW TV launches TV Smart Stick With Voice Commands

Look what we've got here, another way to watch our very own Angie's and Will's phone reviews on GSMArena's YouTube channel.

Available towards the end of February, NOW TV has announced the NOW TV Smart Stick for £14.99.

The NOW TV Smart Stick is Roku powered and now lets you pause live TV on all NOW TV’s premium channels including Sky Sports, FOX, Comedy Central and Sky Atlantic. It will also give you access to some of the UK's catch-up services, including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub and All 4, and you can download over 50 apps including YouTube, Sky Store and Vevo.

For a full list of apps see here.

The Smart Stick is also the first NOW TV box that comes with a remote featuring Voice Search technology that helps you to quickly find your favorite shows, films, actors or directors.

NOW TV's Smart Stick provides a low-cost option to turn a 'dumb' TV or HDMI equipped monitor into a 'smartish' TV. Be warned though, as its raison D'être is to drive viewers to Sky's content; it comes as no surprise that competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are not supported on the platform.

With NOW TV you are not tied to any contract but instead, buy a month of access at a time:

  • Entertainment Pass (£7.99) – watch over 300 Box Sets and 11 channels not on Freeview
  • Sky Cinema Pass (£9.99) - enjoy over 1,000 movies on demand
  • Sky Sports Pass (Day - £6.99, Week - £10.99, Month - £33.99) – see our biggest live matches and events on 10 Sky Sports channels
  • Kids Pass (£2.99) – watch six live channels and thousands of episodes on demand

Currently Sky's content on NOW TV is 720p only with 1080p promised for sometime this year.

Bought Sony smart TV in 2013, over time it's got less smart. Last remaining was BBC iplayer. This was withdrawn before Christmas. Now not smart at all. Had to get Fire Stick. You see ?

Useless peace of stick. Every telly sold these days are smart. Even tv sold from 2012. Why you need to connect some sticks or boxes to watch stuff you can stream directly from tv, people are ridiculous

I'd avoid this for a variety of reasons. It must be similar to the Roku stick, which I've found to be almost unusable due to how slow it is, even on the Roku home screen. NowTV being 720p is a real shame. I bought the entertainment pass to legal...
