OnePlus 11R launches in India with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 100W fast charging

OnePlus had a busy day – it announced the global launch of the OnePlus 11 and it unveiled the OnePlus Ace 2 for China. Actually, while the broadcast in India followed the global event for the most part, it continued on with an additional device, the 11R. This is the local name for the Ace 2.

The OnePlus 11R is a follow-up to the 10R from last year, itself based on the original Ace. Just as the Ace never left China, the 10R never left India. As far as we know, the new 11R model will not be leaving the subcontinent either.

Which is a shame since it brings some cool improvements over its predecessor. The major upgrade is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. As good as the Dimensity 8100-Max is, it’s really a mid-range chip. The 8+ Gen 1 still fast enough to hang with the flagship crowd.

OnePlus kept the display size essentially the same, 6.74”, but increased the resolution from 1,080 x 2,412px to 1,240 x 2,772px. This is half way between FHD+ and QHD+. Combined with the extra processing power from the Adreno 730 GPU the phone will offer sharper graphics in games. The refresh rate is the same at 120Hz and it is still a 10-bit panel (with HDR10+ support).

The 10R model was available with two charging and battery systems – 80W/5,000mAh and 150W/4,500mAh. This year the company took a more balanced approach and only offers one power system configuration with a 5,000mAh battery and 100W fast charging. It’s not as fast as the old 150W model, but it offers longer battery life and sill manages to get to 100% in 25 minutes (down from 32 minutes for the 80W/5,000mAh 10R). This matches the speed (and battery capacity) of the flagship OnePlus 11.

We have been comparing the 11R to the 10R so far, but another comparison is to the 10T. That phone is also powered by the 8+ Gen 1 chipset, but sticks to the old FHD+ display and has a 4,800mAh battery with 150W fast charging.

The camera system is mostly the same as last year with a 50MP main module with an f/1.8 lens with OIS and a 50MP 1/1.56” sensor (an IMX890 this time around, replacing the IMX766). The ultra wide is still at 8MP (120°) and there is a 2MP macro cam. Really, the only notable change here is that the 11R can record 4K at 60fps (up from 30fps on the 10R).

The last thing to cover is the price. The base 8/128GB model starts at ₹40,000 and you can get double the RAM and double the storage, i.e. 16/256GB, for ₹45,000.

For comparison, the old 10R launched at ₹39,000 for an 80W unit with 8/128GB memory, while the 10T was ₹50,000 for the same 8/128GB configuration. Today the flagship OnePlus 11 was launched globally and its price in India starts at ₹57,000.
