OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition unveiled with deep customizations, loaded gift box
Genshin Impact was released in 2020 yet it feels like it has been around for longer – the game won many awards and this January it became the fastest mobile game to reached $5 billion in revenue.
This means that the OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition is styled after one of the biggest brands in the world right now. It’s not the company’s first collaboration with the HoyoVerse, but this one is the result of extra effort.
The bespoke design is inspired by the character Keqing. It’s painted in Electric Violet and a first of its kind electro-etching process was used to give the rear glass a soft-touch finish. The back is adorned with peacock motifs and Keqing’s signature Lightning Stiletto.
The stiletto design is used for the SIM ejector tool too. In fact, the Genshin Impact Edition of the 12R comes in a large box full of custom accessories and collectible merchandise. There’s a violet 100W charger, a violet USB cable with a right-angle plug and a violet LED light and a protective case with the image of Keqing.
Besides t hat, the exclusive gift box contains an acrylic stand that shows off the character, a pin, several magnets and more. You’re getting a lot of stuff – a lot more than the small premium for the Genshin Impact Edition over the vanilla version would suggest.
OnePlus took time to customize the 12R software too – everything from the boot animation to the always-on display and the fingerprint unlock animation is custom. Beyond that, there are wallpapers and icon packs to immerse you in the world of Teyvat.
Looks aside, the software customizations also include exclusive optimizations for the game – OnePlus says this is “the most comprehensively customized Genshin Impact Smartphone ever”. Kinder Liu, OnePlus President and COO, adds “We've really pushed the boundaries to ensure gamers enjoy uninterrupted high-quality graphics and gameplay when they play heavy duty games on their phones. We believe that players will feel the difference while using this custom edition.”
There’s a heap of trademarked names for various technologies and features, but the long and short of it is this – CPU, GPU and RAM have been optimized to run the game faster, smoother, more reliably and to load it faster.
Based on OnePlus’ testing, this bespoke 12R can run the game at an average of 59.4fps for over an hour. The phone’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is kept cool with a large dual vapor chamber (9,140mm² total area). The chipset is paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage (UFS 3.1).
The company says that RAM optimizations enable the phone to load the game faster and to keep it in RAM as long as possible – it remained loaded in the background for 72 hours even with six other background apps running.
The 12R is equipped with a 6.78” LTPO4 AMOLED display (1-120Hz) with 1,264 x 2,780px resolution and 10-bit colors (HDR10+ and Dolby Vision). Typical brightness reaches 1,600 nits, but the peak is at 4,500 nits.
The phone’s 5,500mAh battery will retain 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 cycles (around four years of usage). And with the included 100W adapter, you can get several hours worth of play time after just a few minutes of charging.
These are the same hardware specs as the vanilla OnePlus 12R, of course. This means that the phone is equipped with a 50MP main camera (1/1.56”, OIS) and an 8MP ultra wide (112°), plus a 16MP selfie. There are stereo speakers on board too.
In terms of connectivity, it’s the same again. OnePlus highlights the utility of the 360° antenna – 12 antennas encircle the phone and the company says that 3 of them are specifically designed for gaming. We’re not sure what that means exactly, but the phone promises stable connectivity no matter how you hold it.
