OnePlus Open: what we know so far
OnePlus is one of the few remaining big-name smartphone brands without a foldable device in its portfolio, but that’s about to change with the OnePlus Open. The device is coming on Thursday, October 19, and we’ve compiled the most up-to-date leaks and rumors into one place.
Design
OnePlus Open will have an outward folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and vivo X Fold2. A recent batch of official-looking press renders, shared by WinFuture, show what the phone will look like.
The renders of the OnePlus Fold actually look just like the leaked schematic of the yet-to-be-announced Oppo Find N3 which is expected to remain China-exclusive while the OnePlus foldable will be available internationally.
The renders also reveal a OnePlus 11-inspired camera cutout on the back with Hasselblad branding and three sensors.
OnePlus Fold brings sleek metal sides and a textured back with a leather-like finish. The sides also sport a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button and the fan-favorite alert slider on the left-hand-side.
Specs
Moving to the specs department, OnePlus Fold will house a 6.31-inch AMOLED cover screen with a FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The outward-facing panel is also expected to carry a 20MP selfie camera housed inside a centered punch-hole cutout.
The main 7.8” LTPO AMOLED display will likely feature 1,900 x 2,100px resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Based on the renders, it will have a punch hole cutout in the top left corner for its 32MP selfie cam.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to cover the chipset department and it will be paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.
OnePlus Fold will carry a 48MP main sensor alongside a 48MP ultrawide (IMX581), and a 64MP 3x optical zoom camera.
OnePlus Fold is rumored to arrive with a 4,800mAh battery and 67W charging support which is a tad smaller than the OnePlus 11’s 5,000 mAh battery. The software is OxygenOS 13.1 based on Android 13, but it remains to be seen how OnePlus plans to add more features for the larger canvas.
Pricing and availability
Recent leaks have pointed to a $1,699 price for the OnePlus Open - just $100 off the Galaxy Z Fold5's launching price. Potential customers outside the US will likely get saddled with a higher price.
Anyway, the OnePlus Open will come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage, a 6.31-inch outer screen, and a 7.8-inch flexible main screen sourced from BOE. It's said to be made official on October 19.
The handset will make it to the US and Europe at least, but not Germany due to parent company Oppo's ongoing patent dispute with Nokia in the country.
