ithehappy, 30 Aug 2025Does this phone do push notifications properly for all apps... moreTo be clear, I don't have the phone, however I think that since Nothing is a new phone manufacturer (debut in 2022) and OnePlus is much older (debut in 2014) I would assume that with OnePlus' experience they wouldn't have such issues. OnePlus' reputation is also excellent for reliability.

Does this phone do push notifications properly for all apps? I have a nothing phone 2a which doesn't notify me for several apps until I unlock the phone, apps like chrome, Facebook lite and even gmail at times etc. Does this phone have this problem? It is a deal breaker for me.

I need a phone that is powerful enough and has a great flicker free screen.
TCL 60 Ultra NXTPaper comes soon, but it really made me feel sad, because they won't update their phones more than one year Android versions and they have a terrible processor.
Even Alcatel their side brand has V3 Ultra and it is so weak.
Three years Android updates according to GMSArena, but terrible processor.
At least a high mid range processor.
MediaTek Dimensity 8400 and then I would already have one.

-Metal build feels premium but end of the day you're gonna slap a case over it. Without case u have to be more carefull it gets dent easily.
Frankly there are 1-2 downgrades but there are many upgrades too like Camera, Display, Battery and Processor It's not a deal breaker at all.

I don't know why they make most phones so thin. It infuriates me.

3-No Aqua Touch (available in Nord 4)
4-OLED instead of the more durable AMOLED (available in Nord 4)
One plus should call it Nord 4 Lite

Yeah ... moreYeah it's really disappointing, because the Nord 4 was an actually good phone.
If you really want it, order the global variant from China.
I did this when I bought my X7 Pro when there wasn't a charger in the box with the EU release. I even got it for 50€ less than on Amazon + the charger. 5G works and everything.
Dhgate ships from European warehouses, so no import tax. Arrived in less than a week.
Just Google coupon codes first, I saved 60€ by doing it.
But honestly, Nord 5 is not worth the price. The chipset is a generation old mid range, the camera system is weak. It's a jack of all trades, master of none. It's not a performance phone nor a camera phone, and the price is a ripoff for what you get.
There's better alternatives depending on if you want to prioritize camera or performance. For this price it should've come with a telephoto at least.
I would either buy the Realme GT 7T (7000mAh, decent camera, good chipset), or the Poco X7 Pro or F7 if I were out for cheap performance. For camera I would look at the Motorola Edge 60 Pro.

Yeah the battery nerf is the most annoying.
From UFS4.0 to 3.1 also is a sad nerf.
But the battery is the biggest for me.
Should have kept a 5500mAh battery same as Nord 4 at least.
80 watts of charging speed a nerf from 100 watts also so pointless while not the worst still annoying.
At least the PWM was increased.

Another brand that treats EU like a 2nd hand market while charging the most outta anywhere in the world. Don't buy this overpriced plastic sidegrade.
Downgrades vs Nord 4: Dimmer screen, plastic frame, smaller battery with worse charging speed, UFS 3.1 vs 4.0, almost the same camera setup. Don't be fooled by the 50mp selfie camera, only 0.64µm pixel size vs Nord 4 1um.
If you want a camera oriented phone there's much better options for 500€ (Even telephoto ones).
If you want performance and a good all rounder:
Poco X7 Pro 12/512gb is currently 305€, and the F7 12/512gb 427€. Both of these has 12bit screen (68b colors) vs the 10bit (1b colors) Nord 5. You will notice the color difference a lot. Both are good phones.
Realme GT 7t is also a good option with almost the exact camera setup as Nord 5, and a better chipset + 7000mAh battery and bypass charging (GT 7T is like a better X7 Pro for 100€ more).
All of these three have Dolby vision/atmos on top - the Nord 5 does not.
It's a no brainer to stay away or just get the Nord 4 for 100€ less than nord 5.
What a joke of a release. Don't support bad market practices.
OnePlus has really fallen hard since the merge.
