NuroStaar, 10 Nov 2025I am sending mine back and sticking with my S25 Ultra, imag... moreI would have to agree. The difference in quality is basically negligible, especially with typical use case which is either upload to a social profile, where much of the image detail/colour acccuracy is lost anyway through down sampling; or viewing on your small screen device, where 2k is enough, even if the image is a "lossy" 12MP. You won't be able to see the blur and everything will look sharp.
It makes me wonder if almost every Oppo reviewer is being paid or incentivised to provide a superlative review, making out the X9P is some revelation in camera phone photography.
It IS good, but it is not so good that it deserves all of this gushing. If you get this phone and compare to the X8P, which I will add NO reviewer has done (why do you think that is?) - including the GSM Arena team - you suddenly realise you have been had.
The Chinese are VERY good at marketing.
If money is no issue, sure upgrade. But 1000+ euros is a lot of money for most people and IMO, if you already have a 2024 flagship from ANY brand, spend that money on a nice holiday instead because it really isn't buying you much more of a better phone.

HiddenEmpire , 10 Nov 2025If there is an issue with his unit, still its a shame for t... moreX9P UPDATE
I continued testing different settings and found that on the X9P, using the default "photo" mode does exactly what you experienced: the AI processing is just nasty even for in-focus images. It's mainly blacks. It seems to darken them and add a stroke (thickening), making it look like they are floating on the image almost. The X8P also does this but retains more image detail and isn't as aggressive.
Now I have spent more time with the cameras on both phones, I have found the X9P does something weird. The top 50% of any image is where the phone seems to focus, making the lower 50% blurry.
You have to manually direct the phone where to focus for better results. It seems as though the X9P is PARTIAL or CENTRE metering, while the X8P metering is set to MATRIX, which is default for any camera, be it phone or dedicated camera.
This is not a setting in the phone, it is just how it's been designed by Oppo.
I wonder if the dedicated spectral sensor, which is what the X9P uses, but was not used in the X8P, forces this metering to reproduce more accurate colours. The trade off is that in some shots, details are lost that the X8P otherwise captures?
So manually touching on my screen where I want my X9P to focus AND using only Master mode (auto), I found the following was generally the outcome compared to the X8P:
1x - better on X8P
2x - better on X9P
3x - better on X9P
6x - about even, sometimes one or the other was better.
If you want to eliminate the nasty AI processing, you must ALWAYS use "Master Mode" for photography.
By far the biggest difference in performance between the two is colour reproduction. The X9P is surprisingly accurate. It might be Oppo have better calibrated screen colours as well, but in general what I see IRL is much more similar on the X9P than the X8P, where colours look more washed out.
I wouldn't say either phone is much of a step up in photo quality. The X8P might lack colour accuracy, but you can adjust that yourself - also without comparing side-by-side, you wouldn't even know.
The cameras are about even and there is not a huge improvement in quality with the X9P.
If anyone is buying this phone wanting an upgrade on their X8P cameras, I would wait for the Ultra (if it becomes available globally) or the X10P, which using sensors two generations ahead likely will see a large improvement in IQ.

Primoz, 08 Nov 2025Part where you describe why this zoom camera is a step down... moreIf there is an issue with his unit, still its a shame for the supplier. We have to respect his opinion. Btw, did you use your unit? Or just writing paper specs. Bow i tell you the truth! Bcz i own many ultra phones and compared to even the oldest s23 ultra. The over processed, AI-ish pics of vivo and oppo made me finally to resell those units. Still stuck on s23 ultra. Even the display of these phones with so called Dolby, Adaptive refresh rate and so looks inferior to that of s23 ultra, then why! I don't know why on you tube these phones are overhyped? Or may be people have enough money to buy these

It's frustrating how much these companies charge for flagship phones, especially when they can't even maintain half of their performance for more than 10 minutes right out of the box. They eliminate the 3.5mm audio jack, pushing customers to spend more on higher storage models because there's no option for expandable storage. While they promise long-term software support but those updates often end up slowing down the phone, or worse, causing issues like a malfunctioning screen sometimes even brick them. As a result, people feel compelled to buy a new device sooner than they should have to.

MrSTTEK, 07 Nov 2025then why they reserve SD for ultra models hahahaha...Correct, Ultra always gets Snapdragon.
Ultra destroys the Pro.
Sadly it's China exclusive.
Grrrr!!!

I'm sad.
I seriously want this beauty.
Magenta even!!!
But they have 512 Gigabyte version only.
I really cried when they don't have a 1024 Gigabyte version.
With global ROM.
I hope they still change their minds.
Maybe a special offer?
Mayeb you'd have to buy a bundle with the camera kit too with limited time offer 1024 gigabyte version???

Oppobois, 08 Nov 2025I am very likely returning my X9P for a refund. The camera ... morePart where you describe why this zoom camera is a step down is completely and utterly stupid. I can't believe someone would write such a long comment without investing any time to do a basic research.
Compared to x8 Pro, we now have only one much bigger sensor with 200MP and only ONE lense that is in every possible way more superior than what you could find in x8 Pro. Its first of all brighter and it has possibility to focus extremely close. Even when it comes to 6x zoom, it still sourpasses the x8 Pros one. When it comes to sofware there could be further optimizations like with every new release of a phone. there could also be an issue with your unit.

I am very likely returning my X9P for a refund. The camera is shockingly BAD compared to the X8P. This was an upgrade on my X8P so can compare photos side-by-side. Consistently whether zoomed or not, low light or not, the X8P delivers a more detailed and sharper image.
The X9P is blurry, missing details and the AI is more heavy handed meaning parts of an image are smoothed out with an almost cartoonish look. Images are also darker.
The ONLY improvement is colour accuracy, but it's negligible to the point of being irrelevant.
I don't get the reviews about the X9P as surely the reviewer must have noticed what a step down the camera is? I think because two lens now share the same sensor, there is 1. less light hitting the sensor and 2. lower lens fidelity because of how it has been engineered.
This means software updates won't improve performance. If anything it will get worse as the only thing Oppo could do is post-processing, leading to a faked image.
Does anyone else have both phones to compare my experience with the X9P? This is a huge disappointment.

However, there is >no way< that manufacturers using Mediatek should price their devices the same and more than SD and they have been doing that for years. I will not pay for that, and so I blindly purchase SD, still!..🙂😎

This could have been a even more perfect combination of all sorts of need, such a pair of performance and camera system but I think something is still is missing and that is rhd snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 chipset.
Fortunately, if there were Snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 instead of Mediatek Dimensity 9500, though this is quite good chipset, yet the result would've been more interesting.
But Oppo has optimized this phone accordingly.
Well done Oppo!
And you've blown away iphone 17 Pro Max in just single swoop.
