Oppo R17 hands-on video shows under-display fingeprint scanner in action

Yordan, 16 August 2018

Oppo R17 was unveiled on Monday with an under-display fingerprint scanner and a tiny notch for the selfie camera. The phone will go on pre-order on Saturday and will be officially released in a week, but it already appeared in a hands-on video, showing the fingerprint scanner in action.

The Oppo R17 has an OLED screen, allowing the optical fingerprint reader to work. As the video shows, the scanner is not as fast as conventional ones, but the phone unlocks at the first try. We also see the tiny chin, the small notch and some side bezels.

While the Oppo R17 is official, there are only rumors for a Pro version with a mightier chipset. The phone will also have a dual aperture of the main camera, similar to what Samsung has implemented in the Galaxy S9+ and the Galaxy Note9.

If Oppo would ditch the UD fingerprint sensor, then Oppo R19 could be the first non-Find Oppo phone with no fingerprint sensor and replaced by 3D facial recognition. Same way as Apple did. X-|
