Oppo R7 Plus officially confirmed to come with edge-to-edge screen

11 May, 2015

After months of teasing the development of its proprietary glass tech which creates the illusion of a bezelless display, Oppo went out and released official renders of the R7, where no such effect was observed. As it turns out, the edge-to-edge display was reserved for the larger brother, the Oppo R7 Plus, set to be announced alongside the R7 on May 20.

Oppo R7 Plus alongside regular R7

The R7 Plus showed up on a few occasions, with the latest being a Chinese commercial and its existence was also officially confirmed by a press release from Oppo. The device is noticeably larger, sports a fingerprint sensor on the back and does away with the capacitive buttons in the bottom bezel. It does come with a metal unibody and 2.5D front glass.

While no specs have been officially quoted, a listing on GFXBench website has surfaced, revealing the hardware of the R7 Plus. If the benchmark is to be trusted, the smartphone packs a 5.9-inch FullHD display. The Oppo R7 Plus will allegedly be powered by a Mediatek MT6795M chipset with an octacore CPU, clocked at 1.9GHz.RAM is likely 3GB and internal storage is 32GB of which 6GB are reserved for system use.

We'll choose not to believe the dual 7MP camera combo in the benchmark entry and expect the same 20.7MP unit on the back, as in the regular R7. We'll know for sure come May 20 when everything will become official.

Screw the capacative buttons. On screen buttons are more flexible. Also, if people don't want the 5.9" screen that's why they made the smaller model...
