Oppo Reno2, Reno2 Z and Reno2 F announced with quad cameras all around

Oppo unleashed three new Reno models, all three of them successors to the Oppo Reno. The best handset of the three spans the gap between the Reno and Reno 10x zoom, though it lacks the impressive periscope camera. The other two are closer to the original Reno.

All three Reno2 models have quad cameras on their backs, 6.5” AMOLED displays on their fronts (with pop-up selfie cams) and 4,000mAh batteries with VOOC 3.0 fast charging (20W). All three will be sold through Flipkart, Amazon and Oppo partner stores in India.

Oppo Reno2

The main camera on the Oppo Reno2 uses a 48MP Sony IMX586 1/2.0” sensor with f/1.7 aperture. It adds OIS compared to the old model along with Ultra Steady Video. Next up is an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera with a 116° lens.

The telephoto camera is new here, it's a 13MP shooter (1/3.4”, f/2.4) with 5x hybrid zoom. Oppo hasn’t revealed the exact details of the optical zoom, but we’d guess it’s 3x. So, nowhere near 10x, but note that the original Reno didn’t have any zoom or ultra wide cameras. Anyway, the quad camera setup is completed by a 2MP monochromatic camera for portraits.

The 6.5” AMOLED screen is slightly larger than before and Oppo claims 93.1% screen to body ratio. It helps that the selfie camera is on the trademark Reno shark fin – a 16MP shooter that goes up in just 0.8s and supports video bokeh.

The Oppo Reno2 is powered by a Snapdragon 730G chipset with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. The older model had a S710 chip instead and started at 6/128GB (but the top-specced version was 8/256GB). Expect a noticeable jump in graphics performance.

The battery gets a small bump in capacity to 4,000mAh and supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging (20W), as fast as before.

The Oppo Reno2 will set you back INR 37,000 ($515/€465) when it becomes available on September 20.

Oppo Reno2 Z

The Oppo Reno2 Z is second in line. It keeps the 48MP IMX586 sensor, but loses the OIS (it does keep the Ultra Steady Video feature, however). The 8MP 119° ultra wide-angle camera is here as well, but the quad camera is rounded off with two 2MP cameras used for portrait shots (one mono one color).

The screen is a 6.53” AMOLED panel with slightly thicker bezels (91.6% StB). Instead of a shark fin, the 16MP selfie camera is mounted on a standard pop-up mechanism.

The Oppo Reno2 Z is powered by a MediaTek Helio P90 chipset with the same memory configuration – 8/256GB.

The battery configuration is unchanged, 4,000mAh capacity and 20W VOOC 3.0 charging.

The Oppo Reno2 Z is available for pre-order and the first units will ship on September 6. It will cost INR 30,000 ($420/€375). The Amazon India page is already up.

Oppo Reno2 F

The Oppo Reno2 F also has a 48MP sensor in the main camera, but it isn’t the Sony one (seems to be the Samsung ISOCELL GM1). Instead, Oppo picked up a 1/2.25” sensor and placed behind a slightly darker f/1.79 lens. The 8MP ultra wide camera and the two portrait cams are the same as on the Z phone.

The other major change is the Helio P70 chipset. It gets to keep the 8GB of RAM, but the storage is halved – still, 128GB is plenty of room for your files.

Camera and chipset aside, the Oppo Reno2 F is the same as the Z. That means a 6.53” AMOLED display, regular pop-up for the 16MP selfie camera and 4,000mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 20W charging.

There’s no word on pricing yet, the phone will go on sale in November.
