Oppo Reno and Reno 10x Zoom go official with shark fin-style selfie camera

Sagar, 10 April 2019

After having been subject to weeks of teasers and leaks, the Oppo Reno and Reno 10x Zoom Edition have been finally unveiled at an event held in Beijing, China.

Oppo Reno 10x Zoom edition

The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is the new flagship of the maker and comes complete with a 13MP F/3.0 periscope camera with 10x hybrid zoom. It's joined at the back by a 48MP F/1.7 main snapper and an 8MP F/2.2 120-degree wide-angle camera in a setup that aims to directly tackle the Huawei P30 Pro. In fact the periscope module is both of higher resolution and wider aperture than the Huawei flagship.

The camera innovations continue with the first of its kind a shark fin-style 16MP F/2.0 selfie camera that pops up from the top and offers a 79.3-degree wide view.

The Reno 10x Zoom Edition is powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC with 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB onboard storage. It's built around a 6.6-inch FHD+ AMOLED notchless display that claims a screen to body ratio of 93.1%.

The Reno 10x Zoom boots Android Pie-based ColorOS 6 out-of-the-box and has an in-display fingerprint scanner in tow. It ships with a 4,065 mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 fast charging support.

The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom edition will be offered in Fog Sea Green and Extreme Night Black colors. It is priced at CNY3,999 ($595) for the 6GB/128GB model, CNY4,499 ($670) for the 6GB/256GB version and CNY4,799 ($714) for the top 8GB/256GB variant.

Oppo Reno

The standard edition of the Oppo Reno is more of a mid-ranger with a Snapdragon 710 SoC at the helm. It has a design similar to the more premium phone, retaining the shark fin selfie camera, but it sits atop a slightly smaller 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. The built-in fingerprint scanner is still here, though.

The standard edition has the same 16MP selfie camera as the Reno 10x Zoom, but at the back you only get the 48MP F/1.7 primary camera and a 5MP depth sensor.

The Oppo Reno packs a slightly smaller 3,765 mAh battery, but retains the VOOC 3.0 support. The smartphone is offered in the same RAM/storage combination as the Reno 10x Zoom edition - 6GB/128GB, 6GB/256GB and 8GB/256GB.

The Oppo Reno comes in Fog Sea Green, Mist Pink, Nebula Purple, and Extreme Night Black colors, and costs CNY2,999 ($446) for the base 6GB/128 storage, CNY3,299 ($491) for the 6GB/256GB mid-tier version, and CNY3,599 ($536) for the 8GB/256GB top option.

The Oppo Reno will go on sale in China from April 19, with the Reno 10x Zoom coming in mid-May. They will make their global debut on April 24.
