Our video review of the Moto G62 5G is now up

Affordable 5G phones usually come with a list of compromises since the 5G hardware still eats up a decent chunk of the budget. But if you want the high speed and low latency of the next-gen networks and don’t have the budget for a more premium model, it comes down to finding the right compromise.

The global Moto G62 5G carries a €250 price tag in Europe and its spec sheet is fairly typical of a current Moto G model and of the €200-300 5G phone segment as a whole. The G62 still finds ways to stand out.

For example, high refresh rate displays are fairly common in this segment, but most are 90Hz panels and the Moto offers 120Hz. Also, ultra wide cameras often get cut, but the G62 packs an 8MP 118° module. And for what it’s worth, stock Android is hard to find, especially since Google is reluctant to roll out Pixels to more markets.

The Moto G62 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 480+ chipset instead of the Dimensity 700 that is fairly popular in this segment. The two tend to trade blows in terms of performance and in truth neither is anyone’s favorite chipset. If Motorola wanted something faster, it could have used the Snapdragon 695 that powers India’s version of the Moto G62.

Yes, the model in India has a more powerful chipset and more RAM to boot – 6/8GB, instead of just 4GB. The rest of the hardware is almost identical.

The global Moto G62 5G looks pretty good on paper, but some elements leave something to be desired. We’ll hand it over to Will to explain what works well and what does not:
