Our Poco F5/Redmi Note 12 Turbo video review is up
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 wasn’t used in many phones, so the 7-series still needed a successor to the 778G. That came in March and was so good that Qualcomm called it Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. Our first encounter with this chip comes in the form of the Poco F5 (aka Redmi Note 12 Turbo), which could prove to be one of the more competitive mid-rangers this year.
The F5 sells at €430 (after the early bird pricing of €380 expires) and its chipset can outperform anything in this price class that doesn’t have a flagship chip. Xiaomi also bumped up the battery by 500mAh to 5,000mAh compared to last year’s model, which helped increase the phone’s endurance. The chip isn’t perfect, though, as Will explains in our video review:
Despite looking quite different externally, the Poco F5 camera setup is actually the same as that of the F5 Pro and not far off what the F4 had. Maybe it’s the new processing, but the F5 camera produces noticeably better results than last year’s model.
Good news for audiophiles is the return of the 3.5mm headphone jack, it even has a Hi-Res Audio certification. Note that the jack is available only on the F5, not the F5 Pro. The phone’s multimedia skills also include HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
If you want to have another look at the camera samples or the SD 7+ Gen 2 benchmarks, you can find them in our written review.
