I'm waiting for this phone, my brother has the GD88 and he's had it for over 7 months and it is so reliable - the X70 is an extension of the model with Java, built in flash camera, etc... with the same excellent build quality.
In AUSTRALIA, Panasonic have scheduled the phone to be released late October.
If this is the case, then Europe and Asia should get the phone at the same time!

In terms of look and feel, I think x70 is better (personal choice). Flash is one aspect, but I have a feeling x70 camera might offer more features than v600. From past experience also, as a tester from one of the major mobile operators in UK, I feel Panasonic tends to have better overall quality than Motorola phones. Motorola phones can be flaky at times, especially when you squeeze them slightly in your hands, you can feel the plastic crackling a little bit. The success of GD87 has made expectations on x70 to be very high.

Hard to say which is better between x70 and v500. Will have to wait until both comes out. Will be interesting to see which lives up to expectations.

so how would you guys compare this phone with the Motorola V500? Looks comparable but Motorola seems to have a slight edge on the features department but lacks the IR and flash. Comments?

X70 supports CIF image (i.e. large picture) as well. Frantz, get your facts right please.

Yes, it's a nice phone, very good looking and full of features and with an almost perfect display. BUT: QCIF (176x144) camera just doesn't fit into 21st century phone! You cannot send a "postage-stamp" via email. MMS? How many people do you know with the latest high res coluor display MMS mobile phone, and how many with email? Got it?! Sorry - that's why I'll never buy x70!!!

1.Yes. It will have downloadable ringtones.
2.Screen on the front shows more than just time. i.e. missed calls, time, date....your choice

Two questions [and no - one of them isn't does it have downloadable ringtones ;-)]
- Does the screen on the front just show the time, or does it show missed calls, texts etc as well
- Is it possible to assign pictures of people to the entries in the phonebook.. so it shows pictures of people when they ring? Come to think of it, can any phone do this? My dream (sad as it may be) is that I could see this on the outside of the phone, but defo no phone seems to do that.

Yeah, we all should support Panasonic and other competitors because Nokia is already too big! The phones they put out all the time are very boring. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. And quality, don't even think about that. I've had many cell phones over the years and I can say that Panasonic is one of the best! They don't produce very much phones because they want to put out very reliable phones. Panasonic waits just a little longer, they want a product that's finished. It's that simple. And the X70, just great!
