PCIe 6.0 is here with double the bandwidth at 128Gbps
The PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) has announced the finalized PCIe 6.0 specs. It will once again double the speed of its predecessor with 8GBs per PCIe lane in all directions.
With up to 16 slots, PCIe can reach up to 128GBps of I/O bandwidth.
The new PCI Express bus standard will arrive for SSDs, network and graphic cards, and servers in 2023. Higher demand would mean that server operators will get PCIe 6.0 hardware first, but the tech will make its way to consumer products (like PCs) eventually.
