its a gerat basic phone I think. I purchased it for my mother after the new release in december 2006 maybe. Its still working fine. Sufferd for the charger in the 2nd year for a few day only. After replacing the charger, its nicely working in fornt of my eyes for last 5 years almost. I bought it for only 2500 BDT. As, that was the cheapest phone at that moment in the market. Thanx.

I think that this is good basic phone for people who don`t need anything else like calling and sending sms. I had philips fisio many years ago and It was very robust phone, which was working perfectly.

this phone is the opposite of the carlsberg ad!
probably the worst phone in the world!
messaging and predictive text is a nightmare!
you have to go thru too many menus - call, text, anything - to get to where you want to go.

anyone know how to write a sms without t9? i can't find the option to disable t9

Philips 180 is a good/crapy phone.
It;s best 4 me becouse it's verry tough.
Sometimes I throw my mobile on the floor, when i don;t need it, and it nevre gets "sim error" and the battery never falls from it's soket, not like Nokia and Siemens.
But the phone has crappy ring tones, i use only the "sense simplicity" ringtone 4 sms and incoming calls.
The biggest problem is that it loses it's range verry fast, wen i got to the montain,i habe no signal. And it;s critically to have a workin signal mobile on the mountain.
So 4 the bad signal i have to say DON'T BUY IT! IT MAY KILL YOU ON THE MONTAINS"
Nokia and siemens has o signal problems on the montains, only in valeys, like all mobiles except the big bulki nokias, the ones from 1997

I've always been a fan of Phillips prune juice and their cells. I particularly like the tone on this cellphone. It is very receptive and light weight but extremely fragile

I bought this phone 3 days ago. Brand new. I bought it because I expected the battery would last for a week to ten days. But for the last 3 days, it had already consumed 2 bars of the 4 bars battery life indicator. I used the phone quite heavily, around 50-60 text per day, and 1 hour of talk time each day. Well, if it lasts 5-6 days it is good enough, because this phone is not in the Philips Xenium range, which means it uses "ordinary battery", though the legendary Philips battery life can still be expected. And it's very damn cheap, only US$49!
SMS storage capacity is 300, which is satisfactory for me. Vibration is almost non existent, so this phone doesn't qualify as business phone, because as a businessman myself, I often face a meeting situation that requires silent mode in my cellphone.
Sound reception is fair, though I cannot say excellent. Nokia and Sony Ericsson low end phone may be better in this area. Keypad design is a little bit clumsy, and the keypad's response speed is 10% lower compared to Nokia budget phones. Though in about 10-20 texting, you will get used to its speed.
Calendar / organizer is quite decent. Can store up to 60 appointments / reminders. Ring tone is okay. Quite loud. Build quality is excellent. No creaks, no funny sounds, and no funny feelings though you remove and replace the battery cover a dozen times and more. Feels quite sturdy, though it is very light in weight. Nokia and Sony Ericsson low end phones must give credit to Philips 180 in this area.
Lack of speakerphone can be a problem for you, but I don't really need one, so it's ok for me.
About the backlight, the picture in this website, and all accross the web shows green backlight. Well, mine is blue. It is very bright. Excellent. The keypad is also perfectly illuminated.
OK, conclusion : this phone is not for everybody. It is for everyday, ordinary use. It is a PHONE. Not a portable web browser, neither mp3 player, neither PDA. A phone which works very well. Apart from its shortcomings, such as nearly non existent vibration, clumsy keypad, and lack of loudspeaker, this phone does the job very well. Sense and simplicity. I think the Philips' tagline translates into reality very well through the phone.
The Philips 180 which now I am using, makes my other phone, the glamourous N73 seems very excessive in technology!! :) It makes me realize that I use only 10-20% of the features of my N73, name it : phone, sms, office documents viewer and the browsing. But the camera? The MP3? The radio? Bluetooth? Infrared? EMail?? uh-huh. No no. seldom. once every week or two may be.. you got the idea.
I recommend this phone over Nokia 1200, if you are into texting heavily. But if you need a phone with torch and speakerphone, then go for 1200. They are all about the same price.

I am not a phone basher and I realize lots of people buy phones to only do what they are mainly made for being making calls but euh ... common ... no color screen even? its 2007 not 1997

It's a very practical and extremely cost-effective
phone, really.
One can have all the "must have" features which
everyone wants therse days - 65K colour display,
camera, MMS, GPRS, 3G, memory card slots, etc
etc - but if your car breaks down in the middle of
nowhere and your battery is dead or dying, that's
when you wished you had this phone.
The very essence of a mobile phone in the first
place is to be able to communicate, especially
in an emergency. In plain English, you want
a handphone to be able to reach help and get
you out of trouble, not send fancy colourful
photos, listen to songs, download the latest
lottery or share market results, etc.

its a nice mobile. most of the user only need sms and calling to other phone. they never use other features. so its better for those users. its standby time is really cool.

Basic, for you to talk & SMS.
You won't have the pain of carrying your charger every where in case your set run out of battery, as each recharge last you 2 weeks.
For those who don't waste time and money on sending photos, browsing or download, this is your choice.

Pros:
is an alternative to all-in-one phones
looks better and is cheaper than (most) competitors
long lasting battery
handy keyboard
light in weight
Cons:
only one melody can be assigned to all contacts at the same time
It's good to have an option :)

Outstanding. U can see the screen. Light, but too large. Panasonic made smaller phones. A real mobile, suits most people.

Ha Ha Ha 'reminisce old novelties' that is what is this phone referring to. But I like the idea, I certainly do. sometimes i had this memory in mind n i kinda miss the old phones features, the simplicity, the size, the weight, the ringtone which is none of it's kind nowadays and everything else about it in the past. Well my friends this phone is designed clearly as u can see not to meet the high-tec requirements available in most phones contemporarily. It is obviuosly for other aspect...(u figure that out o.k.)so next time brothers n sisters please not to loathe the appearance of something as what it seems to the eyes but try to understand the cause of it's existence n u'll see the light of joy in every fragile moment of your life.
