The philips 639 is DEFINETLY an DESIGNER-handy. You have to decide what is more important for your mind - the look or the functionality..!
I have bought the handy yesterday. That means in April 2007. So one can say, even if the handy was produced and brought to the market in 2004, the design is still modern and timeless.
And the standardt-features like MMS or WAP for download, 65.000 colored display, and so on, are there.
You can also I buy an additional camera. That camera you can plug-in into the side-slot of the handy. The Picture quality is sufficient .

Hey guys,
I got one 639 in July.
just today after 6 times fixing and 4 months !!!!, after they replaced the hard and the display , I can use it.
Anyway it seems that it is a mistake and not a phone.
Forget it.
And , yes there is not IRDA.

Please tell me why on your web site write this phone have infrared port `on` and in other web`s don`t? I have one of this phone and i can`t gues where IRDA is.Thank you!

It has a very interesting issue!!
In the manual it says that i can set my own voice recordings as ringtones for incomig calls.But i really don`t have any idea how to do it. Can someone explain me how.. plss mail me at razzvan87@yahoo.com if you can help

I currently own this phone, and I quite like it actually. I got it while I was in Indonesia and I think it's really cute. Sometimes, it kind of freezes on me but otherwise, it's performance has been great!

the phone looks nice, small, light, but i think not easy to connect it to pc. i have data cable (serial), but not succeded yet to transfer midi from pc to it.

This phone is crap! The menu is supid, and it has a looot of lag too ! I advise you not to buy it!

I like this phone, great control and excellent video quality. I like the mirror and it look sexy. =)
I just have problem looking for the data cable to link to my PC =(, I'am in Taiwan does any anybody know where find it.
I'am looking forward for the upgrade w/ IR or Bluetooth function.

phone ringer is too low even on max volume, I can't hear it if I place it in my pocket, but the design is nice and cute, so shame..

Battery doesn't sucks! Not on mine anyways.. It eeds to be charged probably every 6th day or so.. That is allright!
Maybe there are better options, but not if you want a very small, stylish phone that had a very user friendly UI.. I think, if you're unhappy with this phone, who probably didn't buy it beacuse it had the features you wanted in a phone!

-battery life sucks (about 2.5 days although it says that it can stand by up to 400h(~16 days))
-slow software

Great phone.
Small and nice looking. The MirrorFX OLED display is amazing!
Battery life is good too, compared to many others.

Hi!
Why are you all bitching about this phone not having inbuilt camera? If you wanted a phone with that feature you should have bought one, 'cause you where all fully aware of the features found in philips 639. Therefore: stop that bitching! it's kind of you own fault since you bought it instead of a phone WITH camera..
And to you who where bitching about the quality of the features; get a life! This phone is a design phone - beautiful by the way - and it is perfectly fine for a person that really doesn't give a shit about a camera you really don't need for anything else than taking your own picture to feel great about yourself! The inbuilt cameras aren't nearly good enough for other purposes so why don't you just give it a break!
