Everything is good with this phone, with exception on the slow software. Try to SMS with this: sometime there is 1 second delay between the button press and the actual letter show up on the screen. To make thing worse, the second button you press will not show up, because the system was busy processing the first letter. Go Figure!

Philips must relaunch this phone. Only now with external memory. How come they produced great model without external memory?

About OLED screens, i have the Benq-Siemens S88, and the screen is great, not grainy like you say. Yes backlight under direct sunlight TFT performs better, but when it comes to real image and contrast OLED far better...
Also an advantage is the autonomy, OLED consums less than the TFT...

I used to used the Nokia 3120 also and my favourite the G-shock shell like 5140 but it's not the same user interface. The Xenium or most of the Philips of today, this one has a one screen menu of 7-9 first level icons and all the relevant widgets embedded thereunder.
As for SMSes, I like the dictionary which learns customized spelling like the Nokia does. There's an sms draft retrieval menu which allows me to continue where I left off after call interruption. Not as neat as some which returns to the sms draft screen.
The one thing I love about this model as with the Xenium 9@9c/e/i/r and probably most if not all of it is the Auto-Off and Auto-On feature. I set it to AUTO-OFF at midnight and turn it on again in the morning. Why waste battery during the night unless my occupational nature necessitates my being on standby.
The ringtone loudness depends on the type of sound file used. Some files have built in amplification. It does not take a large MP3 file but only MP3 clips. The Xenium 9@9r and any other models with a SD card slot can. The 'r' has a neat MP3/AC3 player with good equalizer. Only drawback is 500 contact items.
Let me share my other thoughts on the Xenium also.
The phone's most power economical profile is AUTONOMY but beware of eco/low backlight hindering usability at bright outdoor conditions. Autonomy profile has stretched battery life to over 10 days given the signal patterns in my work place, commuting and home. Take time in lifts and signal black hole zones while commuting into account also plus usage patterns and if I can avoid those poor signal areas maybe 30 days standby is possible. Your mileage may vary.
The handsfree is handy though and quite loud speaker. When you speak, the pickup range is acceptable within 1-1/2 hand span (extend all digits thumb and pinkie as far apart) but you'll have to shout if any further. Great on the table and a cheap effective tele conferencing tool so as long as all parties can come to the phones on both ends.
It stores 1000 contacts allowing for 7 contact types (home, office, mobile, fax, email, pager, note) which shows up on Outlook. What I do mostly is merge contacts friends who are spouses as one contact using the home for Office for the hubby contact and the mobile or home for the wife depending if they subscribe to a fixed line. It beats storing on SIM card which has a field length of 15 characters or less. When the phone rings I know who calls by the call type icon display (office:hubby or mobile:wife)
Disadvantage, being OLED screen it tends to be hard to see at noon day esp if wearing sunglasses. The camera is nothing to shout about but it's due to the OLED screen that the pictures come out grainy. Transferring it to the computer might tell a different story.
Favourite handy tool - LED torch light (shortcut key pad 5 turns on and off) and the sync tool with Outlook of course.

hi halcyon,
just wanted to check with u, is the ringtone volume for this model loud? how about its organizer ? is it similiar to nokia? planned to upgrade my old 3120 to this philips. hope to hear more point of view or reviews from u regard this phone, thanks :)

Yes, it syncs with Outlook 2003. The software works will all other models like the 9@9c and 9@9r which allows me to backup contact and appointments from the old phone to the new one.
This is really neat if you are replacing so in terms of investment protection, it's on the money because the contacts will be portable to different models of the Xenium as mentioned above with one minor side-effect: the contacts are stored in different formats like on 9@9c it's Last Name First Name but on the 9@9r it doesn't seem to bother. So give and take.
One caveat: the communication software (OEM from Avanquest Mobilephone tools) works ok up to Win XP and Outlook 2003. It will not however install on Vista. I have not tested it either on Outlook 2007. So far, I'm hoping Philips will release one version that will work on Vista.

Hi. I have it since 1 month. I have to charge it each 10 days. During the 10 days I call approx. 10-15min daily. Thats for those guys who are mainly interested in battery life. Now my question. Does anybody know, where I could get the "Philips Mobile Phone Tools Light Software". It should be provided on www.club-philips.com - but it is not. I bought it in China without software, so I cannot use the USB-cable for synchronize my phone with Outlook. So if anybody knows where to get this software, please write... Thx

I wonder if Philips has a function where it allows users to create extra folders like Nokia where the Message section allows the Nokia users to create other folders apart from Inbox, Outbox and Sent Items

The phone comes with amazing battery life. I am using this phone in Singapore and the damn battery never runs out. I wonder how Philips gets all this techie stuff? I was using the Moto L7 and it was crapy to this model. I have no regrets buyin this Xenium.

This handset has an amazing battery life, I almost never charge it. Philips use so many good tricks to save battery life.

I had the Xenium 9@9c. Great phone, but poor reception :(. Can anyone tell me about this? Is it better?
