Pixel 9 Pro Fold brings larger displays, updated hinge and slimmer profile

The new Pixel 9 series consists of four members and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the ultimate entry and a far more refined device than the first gen Pixel Fold which was looking pretty dated compared to the new crop of foldables.

Google completely overhauled the design of its Pixel 9 Pro Fold, making it both taller and slimmer than its predecessor. The second-gen folding Pixel adopts a square shape with some 15.5mm difference in height from the Pixel Fold, surpassing even Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 in that department.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 10.5mm folded and a mere 5.1mm when unfolded while also reducing its weight to 257 grams which should make it a lot more comfortable to wield. Another notable design change comes in the hinge which now unfolds completely flat – something that the first-gen Pixel Fold did not. It's also IPX8 water-resistant.

Thanks to the new proportions, Pixel 9 Pro Fold fits larger displays with a 6.3-inch cover screen and a square-like 8-inch folding screen. Both are OLEDs with FHD+ resolution, feture adaptive 120Hz refresh rates, and crank out up to 2,700 nits peak brightness. The two panels also share the same 10MP selfie cams.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold displays

Around the back, Pixel 9 Pro Fold opts for a capable yet not-so-different camera setup compared to its predecessor. There’s a 48MP main shooter alongside a 10.5MP telephoto lens (5x optical zoom) and an updated 12MP ultrawide module.

Pixel 9 Pro is equipped with Google’s new Tensor G4 chipset which is fabricated on Samsung’s 4nm process and features 1x Cortex-X4 prime core @ 3.1GHz, 3x Cortex-A720 @ 2.6GHz, and 4x Cortex-A520 cores @ 1.95GHz. You can configure the 9 Pro Fold with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

Like its Pixel 9 brethren, 9 Pro Fold will ship with Android 14 and all of the new Google AI features including on-device Gemini Nano, Pixel Screenshots, improved Magic Editor and Add Me functionality to insert people in photos that they weren’t originally part of.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold will get 7 years of software updates. Google is going with a 4,650 mAh battery which it claims will last 24 hours of normal use. Wired charging is capped at 21W.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold in Porcelain and Obsidian

Google is offering free storage upgrades for orders placed from now until September 5. Actual deliveries will begin on September 4.

The naming just sounds a bit off to me, and yeah, from what you said, it probably doesn’t need to have “pro” in it.

1900€ for the 256GB model, and 2030€ for the 512GB. Let's compare them with the Oneplus Open, another globally avaible foldable, that is currently being sold at 1500€ for the 512GB. Mind you, Oneplus had the common sense of making the only mod...

Somehow I didn't notice the dimensions. What is the height and how wide and how big is the sensor for the main camera.
