Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5's launch date announced
Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship SoC in September at its Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, where it also introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 without providing specifics and said it would be launched in 2025. Today, Qualcomm's Chinese branch announced that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC will launch on November 26.
The brand didn't reveal the complete specs and features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5; however, back in September, it had described the SoC as a mobile platform developed "to give you more choices and flexibility, while still delivering flagship features."
Later, it confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, is built on a 3nm process, but with the prime and performance cores having a maximum clock speed of 3.8GHz and 3.32GHz, respectively. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5's prime cores are clocked at up to 4.6GHz, while the performance cores are clocked at up to 3.62GHz.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 was also believed to come in a 1+7 configuration, but reliable tipster Digital Chat Station claimed it will come in a 2+6 configuration like its Elite counterpart. That means two prime cores and six performance cores. The tipster also said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 would use the Adreno 840 GPU, but its performance won't be the same as the Elite chip's.
We'll know all about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in a week. In the meantime, you can read our Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 announcement coverage here to learn more about it.
