Realme to make a GT 2 Pro announcement on December 9

Sagar, 07 December 2021

Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship SoC for Android devices last week, and with that began the race amongst smartphone brands to become the first company to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered smartphone.

Xiaomi Founder and CEO Mr. Lei Jun said the "Xiaomi 12 Series will be the world's first smartphones" to have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC under the hood, but Motorola beat it by announcing its December 9 event to introduce the Moto Edge X30 powered by Qualcomm's latest silicon. Soon after, Realme VP Mr. Madhav Sheth also confirmed the December launch of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered GT 2 Pro, and today the young brand took to Weibo to announce a December 9 announcement for the Realme GT 2 Pro.

Realme to make a GT 2 Pro announcement on December 9

While Realme doesn't tell us what exactly it's going to announce on Thursday, we are unlikely to see the GT 2 Pro getting detailed with such a short lead time. The brand won't just introduce its "first-ever ultra-premium flagship" without any high-profile, big-budget marketing campaign spanning across a week or two before taking the wraps off it.

Judging by the machine translation of Realme's Weibo post, what we believe could happen is Realme will introduce the GT 2 Pro with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip at the helm on Thursday before the Motorola event to claim the title of the world's first smartphone announced with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC (remember the 64MP camera-toting Realme XT's announcement?), and do a proper launch event later on.

Either way, we are just two days away from the announcement, so there's not much waiting to find out what Realme has in store for us.

That said, it looks like the Moto Edge X30 will actually be the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered phone since it will be officially unveiled two days later and will go on sale in China starting December 15.

Really, truly sad. That means Madhav Sheth lied. He said the flagship would launch in December, doesn't seem like it.
