Realme GT 6T review
The competition
It's somewhat hard to put our finger on the precise price segment of the Realme GT 6T. There are a plethora of memory versions of the phone as well. At the time of writing, the pricing on Amazon India is as follows: 128GB/8GB - INR 32,000; 256GB/8GB - INR 33,000; 256GB/12GB - INR 36,000; 512GB/12GB - INR 40,000. European pricing, however, dictates that the 256GB/8GB version should have a regular retail price of €550, while the 256GB/12GB one should cost €600. The only problem with that is that Realme is running a promo for the 256GB/8GB version at just €400. A promo that should have ended already, but at the time of writing, is still live on Amazon DE.
All of this makes it a bit harder to pick out viable contenders for the GT 6T properly. Not many phones of this caliber are available around the €400-500 price point. Popular devices currently seem to either cost north of €600 or south of €400. Having said that, you can technically get a base 128GB/8GB Samsung Galaxy S24 for €600. We can't, however, in good conscience, recommend a 6.2-inch device as an alternative to the Realme GT 6T.
The Samsung Galaxy A55 is a more viable option. You can get one for well under €400. Its Exynos 1480 chipset isn't as powerful as the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 inside the Realme GT 6T. Nor is the Galaxy's display on the same level as the bigger, brighter and better LTPO panel on the Realme. And we can't even compare the charging rate. However, you do get IP67 ingress protection with the A55, excellent stereo speakers, expandable storage and a potent camera setup. The A55 also gets four major OS upgrades and five years of security patches, which is better than most.
The OnePlus Nord 4 is a very similar phone to the Realme GT 6T in terms of both specs and price. It also has IP65 ingress protection and stereo speakers. Its display is slightly smaller, with a 6.74-inch diagonal, but other than that, it is equally impressive in terms of performance. Other than that, you get the same Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset and pretty much identical memory and storage tiers. The camera setups are quite similar as well. The Nord 4 gets slightly slower charging but not too far off in real-world terms.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro+ • OnePlus 12R • OnePlus Nord 4 • Xiaomi Poco F6
Xiaomi has more than a couple of great offers for under €400 right now. For instance, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is an incredibly well-rounded device. It has IP68 ingress protection, an excellent 6.67-inch Dolby Vision, 120Hz AMOLED display, a potent MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra chipset, great stereo speakers, very fast 120W charging and an impressive 200MP main camera.
Suppose you have slightly different priorities and would rather invest in performance more than anything else. In that case, the Xiaomi Poco X6 Pro with its MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset can trade blows with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 inside the Realme GT 6T. You will have to live with IP54 ingress protection, a lesser 64MP main camera and slower 67W charging.
The Poco F6 is another great Xiaomi to consider. Some of its highlights include IP64 ingress protection, a great 6.67-inch, 12-bit Dolby Vision, 120Hz display, a great camera setup and fast 90W charging on a slightly smaller 5,000 mAh battery pack.
There are at least two good contenders in camp Motorola. If you don't mind spending the extra cash, then the Edge 50 Pro is currently just over €600. However, we think that the Edge 50 Fusion is a much better deal. For just over €300, you can get IP68 ingress protection, great stereo speakers, a vibrant P-OLED display, and decent performance.
The excellent OnePlus 12R is also within budget. It offers IP64 ingress protection, excellent stereo speakers, fast 100W charging, a well-equipped 50MP main snapper with OIS and Laser AF. There is also the ex-flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and its excellent performance, and we can't overlook the excellent 6.78-inch, 120Hz, Dolby Vision, LTPO4 display.
Our verdict
The Realme GT 6T is an excellent and very well-rounded upper-midranger. It is a true multimedia powerhouse with its class-leading vibrant, bright LTPO OLED display and exemplary stereo speaker performance. It also has impressive battery endurance. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset offers ample burst and sustained performance, making the phone great for any task, particularly gaming, thanks to its nicely implemented per-app high refresh rate selection options. The main camera is also quite capable regardless of lighting conditions.
If we had to find some complaints about the Realme GT 6T, it would probably be the 8MP ultrawide camera. The competition has moved away from the dated 8MP ultrawide unit, and Realme should too.
Other than that, the decision whether to give the Realme GT 6T a hearty recommendation or not is going to come down to pricing. The quoted regular MSRP of €550 for the 256GB/8GB version seems a bit too steep for our liking. However, this current €400 deal (with a charger in the box) makes for a much more appealing offer, whether temporary or not. We would have no trouble recommending the Realme GT 6T at that price.
