Redmi 9 Power with 6GB/128GB memory allegedly coming to India

Victor, 20 February 2021

The Redmi 9 Power made its debut in India in December last year and was almost immediately met with a bit of confusion, since it appeared to oddly encroach on the company's Poco M3 market share in an obvious way. The Redmi 9 Power is pretty-much a re-branded Redmi Note 9 4G, with an extra 2MP macro camera thrown into the mix. Still, that made it essentially identical in specs to the popular Poco M3 and even a bit cheaper in its base tier at some retailers, while offering an extra 8MP ultrawide snapper.

That is admittedly a bit of a weird situation, but things might just get weirder still, since according to a reputable insider source, Xiaomi is apparently looking to introduce a 6GB RAM variant of the Redmi 9 Power to the India market. Effectively shrinking the gap between it and the Poco M3 further still, since the latter already has 6GB modifications. For the Redmi 9 Power, though, 6GB will only be available alongside 128GB of storage, making this the highest tier Redmi 9 Power, with an alleged retail price of INR 12,999 ($180). That would effectively make it a bit pricier than the 6GB/128GB variant of the Poco M3, though. At least at MSRP, which raises some practicality questions. Especially seeing how the particular 8MP ultrawide snapper on the Redmi 9 Power is hardly a major draw to merit such an upsell over the Poco M3.

Just for further reference, the Redmi 9 Power currently starts at INR 10,999 ($150) for the 4GB/64GB one and goes up to INR 11,999 ($165) for the 4GB/128GB. It is worth noting that the bigger storage chip is of the faster UFS 2.2 variety, instead of UFS 2.1. Other notable specs on the Redmi 9 Power include a 6.53-inch, FullHD+ LCD, Snapdragon 662 chipset, 48MP main camera, 8MP ultrawide, two 2MP extra snappers and an 8MP selfie. Stereo speakers are also a notable part of the mix and so is the large 6,000 mAh, capable of charging at 18W and delivering power via Reverse charging at 2.5W.

actually 9 power got really bad reviews from customers, like bad perfomance, and poor battery life. i don't think extra amount of ram will save this product.
