Poco F8 Ultra aka Redmi K90 Pro has its camera details leaked

The Redmi K90 Pro is expected to be unveiled in China soon, as its predecessor is almost one year old now - it was released in November of 2024. The K90 Pro is rumored to be rebranded for international markets as the Poco F8 Ultra, and today some camera details for both have been outed.

The Redmi K90 Pro and Poco F8 Ultra will share the same main camera using a 1/1.3" type sensor, and this is likely to be the exact same camera used in the recently unveiled Xiaomi 17, in which case expect it to have f/1.7 aperture and a 23mm focal length, along with OIS of course.

This would be a substantial upgrade from the K80 Pro's and Poco F7 Ultra's 1/1.55" type sensor, letting in much more light. The sensor itself is rumored to be a customized one by OmniVision, bearing Xiaomi Light Fusion branding.

Moving over to the telephoto camera, this is going to be of the periscope variety allegedly, using a 1/2.76" type sensor, which could be Samsung's ISOCELL JN5. If so, then the K90 Pro and Poco F8 Ultra will have 2.5x-3x optical zoom, and this might even be a telephoto macro camera.

The ultrawide may be using OmniVision's OV50M sensor, with 50 MP resolution and 1/2.88" size. This would be another obvious upgrade from the last generation's 32 MP ultrawide using a 1/3.42" type sensor.

So it's looking like the Redmi K90 Pro and the Poco F8 Ultra will have much more of a focus (pun intended) on camera quality than any of their predecessors, if this pans out of course.

Using best hardware and not optimizing to its potential seems to be what Xiaomi (and it's different units) are doing. Not a good strategy!
