Republic Wireless now offers Moto X for $300

When the Moto X was announced, we felt that it was a little overpriced, even after a series of price cuts – to $99 on contract and to $550 off-contract. Still, Motorola managed to move 500K units in Q3.

There's a new offer now – Republic Wireless will sell you a Moto X for $300. Note that this is not off-contract but you can get a contract as low as $10/month for unlimited calls and texts. That one has no data, the $25/month plan also throws in unlimited 3G data and there's a $40/month plan for unlimited 4G data.

If you're not familiar with Republic Wireless and wonder why they can get such cheap prices, you should know there's a trick. The Moto X will be configured to do voice calls over Wi-Fi using UMA and only falling back to Sprint's network when there's no Wi-Fi available. This is how the cheapest $5/month plan works as it doesn’t include any calls, texts or mobile data, but is true for the other plans too.

That sounds like a weird setup, but you're getting a 16GB Moto X for $50 less than a 16GB Nexus 5. Before you hit buy, you might want to do your due diligence and check AT&T, which offers the Moto X 16GB for $100 with a $20/month contract (300MB data). Also, Verizon has dropped the up-front price to $50 (the offer ends on November 18).
