This is a commendable effort GSM, thumbs up for it.
The best budget phone IMO for the average user is the Galaxy S4 mini or the HTC one mini, both are brilliant devices that aren't going to be outdated atleast for another year. They give performance as well as good aesthetic without being laggy, both have wonderful screens and are a joy to play with it.
One phone that you did miss out is the Blackberry Z10 which has dropped down in its pricing considerably, Recently available for as low as 200£ this device is great value for money and blackberry still has a small niche in the market.

You failed to include Thus years BlackBerry offerings which I believe are still quite capable smartphones and can easily compete with the smartphones you've included in thus article. I just find it disappointing that you would disregard BlackBerry in the belief that "Blackberry's dying anyway" and that is wrong.

Say the Z10 Blackberry is equal to 310 Euros in Indonesia. That is great value compared to many mobiles around that price.

Anonymous, 06 Nov 2013"Finally, we come to the Apple iPhone 5s. Don't get us... moreYup, Apple is going to be like BlackBerry down the road. iPhone 5c is a mistake as no one is buying it.
Some of their solid Apple users are switching as they see so much potential aspects of other devices. Meanwhile a majority of them are just want a simplified device with the notion that it's the best out there because they don't know better. Apple emphasized of the iPhone's image as premium with the golden iPhone 5s -just more expensive with no difference internally. Effing hipsters feeling superior because of packaging.
Diehard iPhone fans are just in their zone that their devices works flawlessly smooth because it does not have true multi-functions, and they think whatever new features Apple adds is innovation without knowing that they're in Android devices for years. They pay $100 more just to get an increment of 16GB or 32GB internal memory. They don't know that a 64GB micro SD card just cost $56.
Just recently a friend of mine who is a serious Apple aficionado of 4 years just gave in to getting a Galaxy Note 3. He's pass the hype about Apple products.

Anonymous, 06 Nov 2013"Finally, we come to the Apple iPhone 5s. Don't get us... moreAbsolutely spot on comment! I would also humbly add worst email client going around - bit of a joke actually.
BlackBerry was a smartphone giant not so many years ago - look at where they are positioned today.
You can only keep on fooling the punters for so long before they wise up...and market share slide backs up exactly what I am saying.
Take note Apple. Stop playing with fire. Give the consumer what they want, not what you think they should get.

James, 05 Nov 2013No Blackberry Z10 and Z30, both of which are very relevant ... moreHmm - what sort of work do you do? A lot of what you say makes good sense though we mostly buy a mobile on price with hopefully a reasonable screen and camera. I would like to see Blackberry survive as well and hopefully they will. I also agree security is an issue like here in the UK.

"Finally, we come to the Apple iPhone 5s. Don't get us wrong, it's an amazing smartphone but the pricing gets harder to swallow each passing year, especially when you can have good Androids and WP8 phones at half the cost."
Adapt or die Apple. Next year you need to release 2 phones, one 5+" and one the same size as 5s, 12+mp camera and 1080p display and both with new designs. Open the filesystem to the extent that people can manage their own media files and folders. Drop your silly pricing strategy and silly memory storage models (64GB/128GB - no more 16/32).
Or keep following your current strategy and continue to lose market share.

AnonD-196455, 05 Nov 2013HTC ONE best of the rest.Apart from the camera, HTC One is the best of the last generation (not running S800 processor) of Android phones. I have one and it's fantastic. I don't think I'll ever upgrade to the latest smartphones anytime soon.

AnonD-59342, 05 Nov 2013Note 3 is the best! iPhone 5s is a WASTE of money. Great... moreAndroid is a pain in the ass to a lot of people and Touchwiz is the slowest and bloated custom UI so Note 3 cannot be the best phone.

I think your wrong sir, the iphone is a big pain when it comes to IT especially with Microsoft. I work in a large corporation in NZ and our IT staff either have windows or android phones, not iphone. We do give the sales / marketing etc iphones because they are dumb and simple but our IT prefer and will always use WP8 or Android.
