Apple iPad mini 2 review: Moving up the ranks

22 November 2013
The iPad mini with Retina screen is everything the little tablet deserved to be – a more compact equal of the bigger iPad with no compromises made. And unfortunately, it’s just one thing short of what we all thought a compact tablet should be – cheap...

Anonymous, 23 Nov 2013Because it is worth the money. Tons of people bought it.... moreThe poor man ipad mini just got better.
I'll rather buy the new ipad air instead of this smaller tablet which does not make me feel like I've just bought myself a new tablet.

Even Chinese does not want this cheaper tablet from apple. Most of them will go for full ipad or they don't buy any of them. They say, buying smaller ipad mini will only bring disgrace like they couldn't afford the full ipad.

Btw, reported by Chinese website, full ipad retina screen was better than ipad mini2.

AnonD-133810, 23 Nov 2013Why people are buying this too expensive tablet????? For me... moreBecause it is worth the money.

Tons of people bought it. If it is truly expensive no one would have buy it.

I tried so many tablets, but none, NONE have even come close to the battery endurance nor choice of optimised apps then iPad / iPad mini.

Sure if you are into bluetooth connect with cavemen, or torrenting or playing 8bit emulator, this is not a product for you. Silly IMO, to even consider those crap tablets, you rather donate it to the poor.. or save up and get this ipad.

Why people are buying this too expensive tablet????? For me is ridiculos to spent lot of money for a overpriced tablet. Apple, make price lower, this tablet is not made from gold...and have same stupid interface like first old ipad, 4 years ago...

I own a Nexus 7. I was planning to buy the newer Nexus 7 but the battery life is horrendous. That's why I'm giving the ipad mini 2 a try. The battery on the Nexus 5 is also bad. What is up with Google and tiny batteries?

AnonD-1825, 22 Nov 2013It just look like iPad mini 2 doesnt sell anything like Air... moreYeah, the Air is a triumph. So light and thin, but I don't like the size. It's still a little unwieldy for carrying around the house.

              I've ordered the Mini.

Or is it because very low supply? Still i wouldnt be surprised if the small tablet era is going to slow because apple made sametime big and small iPad Air. So it has best of both worlds.

We weighted my Air and my friend iPad mini and the weight difference is very small, Apple really nailed it with iPad Air.

No mention of poor sRGB values compared to Ipad air or the lottery of panels received with one having more image retention than the other(LG or Sharp).

The 3 way photo of the women clearly shows the ipad mini 2 having a poor color gamut compared to air and iphone 5s.

AnonD-129806, 22 Nov 2013Main disadvantages Expensive for a compact tablet Non exp... more"Tied into iTunes for uploading most of the content"

I use dropbox or skydrive for most content, cloud services are great for sending random files, If i want to transfer videos to my iPad i do it with ftp adress via browser, its possible to do everywhere. Usually people say if you have iPad or iPhone and go to your friends place they have to have itunes for example sending movies, noup, not true, you can do it with via web browser very easily and fast.

Only thing where i use iTunes is sending music and its very good for doing that.

"So, if you have already decided to part with that sort of cash, the meaningful choice is really between the new iPad mini and the iPad Air. You can go left or right, but never wrong. In fact, the mini over the iPad Air seems to make a lot of sense."

I have to disagree here. I think that you actually can go wrong by choosing the ipad mini. Ultimately it might be the best iPad experience between the two, but i would prefer the iPad Air over the mini. Right now, the Mini is justified just because its as powerful as the iPad Air, but smaller. But what if Apple releases a bigger iPhone next year? That would kill the joy of the Mini, just because i would have two devices with little screen difference. I would pick the iPad Air because its almost certain that Apple will follow the trend and release bigger iPhones. It might not be now, but they will sometime. And when that happens, those iPad Mini users will not like having two similar devices with just 2 inches or so difference on screen size.

Great review tho'... and i did choose. I went right. (iPad Air)

                        Main disadvantages
                        Expensive for a compact tablet
Non expandable memory, extra storage is largely overpriced
Tied into iTunes for uploading most of the content
                        No standard USB port

Yep somes up Apple nicely plus all folk i know fed up with different display indescrepencies what happened to apple been tops?.Wheres quality control if apple are so perfect you would think they would reject screens not up to their accurate spec..

I have really tried to like Android tablets, but always end up disappointed, both by the user experience and by the stupid screen ratio which does not work well for web browsing, gaming, or anything other than 16x9 videos.

The iPad has really nailed it. Still the best.

Expensive? Not significantly more than comparable tablets from reputable manufacturers and well worth the premium, IMO.
