Sony Xperia C review: Cash and carry

5 December 2013
The China-bound Sony Xperia C could be the right opportunity to smuggle some big-screened, quad-core goodness into markets where those things usually fetch a high price. It’s certainly the right size too. Five-inchers don’t...

Gaszton, 06 Dec 2013can anyone tell why sony does not use in-plane-switching (... moreWell IPS is a variation of TFT LCD display, which does had its own advantages, but not necessarily when it comes to small and cheap(phone) displays. You can look at computer monitors and see IPS is ultimate tech for color and contrast, disadvantage only (relatively) slow response time.Cheap IPS is even worse than brand quality TN panels,so maybe the same apply here (in phone displays).

Your other question was does Sony is producing their own displays.Answer is yes, although their small screen division was merged into Japan Display.. in which Sony posses stakes now.

      Cheers

Mid-rangers with big screens are nice, but what we really need are high-end smartphones with a smaller screen!

can anyone tell why sony does not use in-plane-switching (IPS)screens?

even in thier flagship models they have TFT with limited viewing angles.
I can only guess that they cannot manufacture it, and dont want to buy it from some other company...

                  Very nice device.

overpriced cellphone maker uses MTK and still it is an overpriced product, such a waste.

I don't think it's so critical for the battery test that it was done at 150 cd/m2. Galaxy S4, iPhone 5, HTC One and Noye 2 were all tested at only 200 to 215 without earning any footnote, and Galaxy Nexus was at only around 120, now what about that? Sure, they are closer to their max brightness, but Xperia C is not to blame for the low maximum brightness of amoled displays.

And by the way, 150 cd/m2 is not too dim for indoor use.

But ok, let's say it should have been at around 200 brightness, then we add 30% battery consumption for the display and let's say display accounts for 60% of the power consumption, which means 18% faster battery drain, that's still better web browsing time than Note 2 with its giant battery, ok fact nearly 2 hours better. I rest my case.

rex, 05 Dec 2013opps!! its benchmarks like joke!! very weak result sony . ... moreWhat! It benchmarks just below or above Galaxy S3, has the same amount if RAM and far less bloat than touchwiz meaning it will be just as fast in real life usage, that's pretty decent for this price.

Performance is like Samsung S3, display is better that the Grand and cost like Chinese manufacturers ... good job Sony
