I mean the chipset that 520 uses is almost as capable as the one that the American S3 used, very similar scores in benchmark. Also it runs in far lower resolution so of course and it would be faster. It's also far less capable, as it has far less of an app variety and it can only run one app at a time (hence why 512 mb of ram is enough for 520).
In general WP is a very inefficient OS, to achieve the level of smoothness that nexus and iPhone phones achieve they sacrifice great swaths of functionality. I hope people would see that and stop buying into their hype. Windows 8.1 (non rt) -on the other hand- is a great OS, and I wanna see more of it in tablets...

Some details lacking (such as screen resolution and amount of ram on some tablets) but other than that, a good comprehensive review

Windows Phone and windows 8.1 on ARM are ALOT FASTER and SMOOTHER than Android. GSMA should really make a comparison between them and prove this.
I still can't get over the fact that my Lumia 520 is FASTER in EVERYTHING than my Galaxy S3!

While I respect this being outside your expertise, I expect the windows (non-RT) tablets to eventually push the other tablets out of the market. First in the large category and then down to the smaller tablets. Especially with Intel making much better atoms, Microsoft uniting the windows and Windows Phone stores (which should never have been separated) and Windows Phone gaining market share. Unstoppable force. And the convenience and possibilities of having a real windows computer at hand will have the family nerd pushing these devices to all around them. Now I can finally run goodsync, teamviewer and all kinds of other programs on my parents tablet :-) Such tablets will replace both notebook and tablet.
