Windows Phone 8.1 review: Major league

21 April 2014
Windows Phone is yet to become the game changer Microsoft was hoping for. It didn’t quite achieve the explosive growth to become Nokia’s savoir, but it has been steadily climbing up the ranks. Maybe an upgrade of the scale of its 8.1 version is all it needed to go into overdrive and really challenge the big two in the smartphone game.

My only question is has USB tethering been made native? The MS love in with the restrictive carriers of the US has made the OS a complete no no for overseas users who frequently like to use their mobile data plan on the PC/Laptops.

If that there then great otherwise it's a clear pass.

By the way, Cortana is behind Siri and Google Now? Really? All other reviews beg to differ, with all the Cortana features available that are not available on Siri and Google Now, like Geofencing ("Remind me to pick up milk at the grocery store") or people reminders ("remind me to tell my sister...") or the news catalog, tailored for you or allowing 3rd party apps to integrate with Cortana so you can actually ask her to turn down the lights at your house!
Battery percentage is also shown when you pull down from the top, right underneath the battery icon.

I think the only actual point that was true is the app catalog...which is an old story.

"Battery percentage on the status bar"
You pull down the notifications "shade" and you can see the battery percentage right under the battery icon. More elegant.
