GSMArena smartphone shopping guide: August 2014

29 August 2014
It's been a few months since our previous Smartphone buyer's guide and the mobile market has shifted significantly since then. It's a buyer's market as they say, cheap phones have become better and flagships have become cheaper...

The best current phone, HTC M8, is missing...

It's also a little amusing that although the iPhone and M8 aren't featured, they're both in the headline graphic on the home page (the phones and money).

Aadrian, 29 Aug 2014No cons for samsung devices? Suspicious. I can name a dozen. Was just about to comment on that.

No cons on Samsungs, so why even bother listing other flagships?

        :D

No m8 and NO cons for the S5?? This is ridiculous, the note 4 is just around the corner and yet the note 3 is on the list. Are you off your rocker Gsmarena??

Nice review but a bit biased towards Samsung it seems, and this comes from a Note 3 user. Apart from things already mentioned (no M8, inconsistency in approach between 5s and Note 3), it's hard to oversee that LG G3 is judged to be "too big for a smartphone" and Note 3 (which I actually own and enjoy0 isn't! I can understand that trying to wrap an enormous market in one review is a difficult task, but some consistency in approach would do wonders in terms of credibility!

Where's the Galaxy S4? It's the best bang for the buck at the moment.

There are some wrong info : xperia sp is still at 4.3 , g pro lite dual is already updated to 4.4 , why don't include bad viewing angle and contrast at the cons of z and zl

"If you've read through the pages and wonder why we missed the iPhone, the answer is simple - the new one drops on September 9 and now is the worst time to buy an iPhone 5s."

And it wouldn't be the worst time to buy a Note 3? Just pointing out a technicality.

Other than that I think its hilarious how upset some people get that *their* phone didn't get featured.

Blackberrys dont need to compete on price to 'compensate for their lack of apps' They compensate by building devices that last years, have unmatched security and provide total business solutions. Something androids will take years to achieve.

Glad to see a recommendation for the Note 3 but not the iPhone 5s. Both are a year old now, with updates just round the corner, but which will hold up for longer? Happy Note 3 owner here. :)

I dont think it was a good idea to drop iPhone, some countries will not see the new iPhones before December at best so 4s, 5c and 5s are still highly viable options for buyers in these countries and 4s will remain a bestseller in upper midrange around the world for a long time still, even in western countries.

AND, you included the Z2 and Z1 Compact, which are up for replacement 6 days earlier? This kind of bias and not so well hidden iPhone hating may cost you a lot of readers in the long run, it should look fair to all parts.
