19 September 2014
Xiaomi has been a regular around here lately and one of the last times we heard of them was how they sold a boatload of phones in no time. And it wasn't their finest either. A heavily discounted...

Redmi 1S is a downgrade from Redmi 1 in some area despite the better processor.

One, the MIUI is a memory hog on the Redmi 1S. Less than 400MB of available memory when the phone is freshly booted, and then the available memory drops fast as you use the phone. Soon your apps, services and keyboard will be force closed, sometimes even when you are in the middle of using the app/service/keyboard.

Two, the phone gets hot very fast. When the phone gets hot, the battery drains quick.

At least in this case, it's a snapdragon 400. Phones with that specs cost more than double of what xiaomi is selling it for. And it has lpddr3 ram and eMmc flash storage. That's pretty high end for a device that costs 100 $. MOST PHONES DON'T HAVE THAT.

Don't buy this garbage! Don't be fooled by the price. Yes the hardware is decent but that is it. The software is HORRIBLE!! Only 250 MB free ram at boot is a JOKE!! You cannot run more than two apps at once it automatically force closes every app. Don't believe anyone the software running this phone is garbage! v36,37,41 all official ROMs are CRAP!! Call dropouts & what not! There is no kernel source code available yet either from Xiamoi. No proper AOSP Android. No hardware acceleration. This phone is friggin useless! It will be the worst mistake you do if you buy this. Get a Moto G it maybe double in price at least that friggin WORKS!!

I love the fact you review this device, but I hate the fact you don't consider the *real* price of it.
To buy a Xiaomi phone, you have to buy it from someone else who bought it in China and is ready to send it to you via EMS/DHL/other mail. Xiaomi doesn't sell worldwide, only in China and India. After paying all the necessary payments, Xiaomi phones gain no less than $50 in price, typically $70 and up, depending on the seller and device. So no, it won't cost you 100 euro, more like 150 euro or more.

I'd also be happy if you provide a link where they break each aspect of the part's of the phone that actually matter than misleading market strategies.

It might be worthy for many but i don't like it. Design is not cool, nor the ui. Moreover it's xiaomi, not a well known reputed brand so definitely a risk on customer service. But its India, you just need to put something known as high end in a extreme low price tag and its success. People keep talking about quad core, eight core, big screen, ram.. are they really aware of what cores are? About the types of ram? I know many would but much a bigger section don't. I believe this phone will crash down like canvas 2.

The low ram makes the launcher reload every time I take some pictures, play games, hell sometimes even after heavy browsing. That annoys me and this is on mi3. That's y I am planning to switch to aosp 4.4.4 stock Android as soon as it's bugs are ironed out.
