jaydeep, 20 Sep 2014Indian version of redmi 1s gorilla glass is replaced by AGC... moreDragon tail is cheaper than gorilla glass and it also shows fingerprints and smudges more easily.

1.6ghz from a snapdragon 400? That is overclocked which means heating issues and battery problems. No excuse for using anything below kitkat now. More vulnerable to being hacked on jellybean based software. Plus side though - all video codec supported out of the box - if that's true then that's great especially at this price.

I do not recommend this phone, I bought one for my dad, it has many issues. Firstly the phone runs very hot, make a call it heats up, use the camera too long same thing, play games it will burn. The worst problem is that you can accidentally enter fastboot while the phone is on. Just accidentally holding the volume and power keys for too long will reboot the phone into fastboot mode where the only way to get out of is to remove battery. This is completely unacceptable! The battery life is just bad, they put too high specs to drive sales, the battery can't keep up. Very disappointing product.

AnonD-237608, 19 Sep 2014Maybe you setted to automatic kill apps in a period of time... moreIt's not the due to any battery saving methods. From what I've gathered online, it points to running out of memory.

It gets a long time to fully charged after reaching upto 85%.once reaching upto 95%, suddenly shows battery 76%.something is wrong with this phone.
While making call or receiving call, the screen becomes black & no buttons work at all & the screen becomes available only when the call is aborted & that too by the caller because you can't do anything till the call is disconnected by the caller.
Another worst thing is very poor response to FM channels, no FM station is clear.
This phone is only cheap but is a great HEADACHE.

A few things:
There's a notification LED light just below the Home button.
The press-and-hold Home button to turn on flash only works in the lock screen, but at least the toggle is available in the notification drawer.
I noticed that in the AnTuTu benchmark, the Xiaomi Redmi Note is listed. Does this mean a review of the Redmi Note is coming?

With powerful hardware and low price tag, I see none can beat Redmi 1S at the moment.
But for some reason I don't like the design of this phone. dunno..

The reason for the Redmi's high reflectivity is not the glass, but the screen does not employ what nokia calls 'clear black'. You can tell right away the Redmi will have poor contrast and sunlight legibility by how the screen appears grey when turned off as opposed to black.
Your contrast values are skewed, because looking at videos of the redmi beside the mi3, it is clear the redmi has very poor contrast levels. You also don't mention that the Redmi lacks an OGS display.
1 more thing. Redmi 1s weighs 163g not 158g.

The Redmi 1s weighs 163grams not 158grams... check for yourself with a weighing scales instead of using the incorrect specs from your own site :)

I may add, to westerners its seems like its too easy to chose a good cheap phone, even the reviewers here seem to not understand how vast selection there is of cheap Android phones in Asia, and just like anywhere else one cannot expect the average people to know which one is good or bad. Then when we also count in the fact that emerging brand phones are often sold in dedicated outlets it gets worse, in a kiosk selling only ONE brand of phones the salesman/saleslady will of course not guide people to the best make and model (and thats exactly why they chose to sell them this way, in a real cellphone store noone would recommend their phones to anyone).
Xiaomi isnt reaching out to the masses, lots of Asians are still not buying online, even in the more developed and strong economies like Philippines only a few percent of people are shopping online and most of those who do are middleclass and can easily afford much better phones. I guess it isnt too different from India, the only reason why online shopping looks to be a big deal in India is the shear number of people, in India even 1% of the population makes up a very big customer base.
