Nokia 8800 Sirocco review: Luxury redefined

20 Nov 2006
Sirocco is currently the most expensive Nokia model on the market. It has a sapphire protecting glass and glossy steel panels; among its standard accessories are a leather case, two batteries, a earphone, a Bluetooth handsfree, and a cleaning cloth. Apparently, future owners of Nokia 8800 Sirocco will be happening to rarely run one into another if ever.

Things are really going bad.... Previously these glorious series 8 were made from fine materials: aluminium, magnesium, titanium.... And I really liked them. Now, what? Steel!! Well I think this phone's place suits well in the hardware stores along with the nails and hammers....
Seemingly Nokia just wants to save from materials but sell the phone at the same and even higher price as the other 8 series.

I've had the phone for 2 months now. It's a stunning looking phone, a pleasure to hold in your hands. It's got a hefty price tag but you get a lot of things: Phone, 2 batteries, charger for your phone and second battery, BLUETOOTH headset (cool! they don't come with many mobiles out of the box), suede cleaning cloth and a leather poutch, charger, software cd's, charger and a headset with cord.
So in the end it's a bargain.
I got the dark version. I love it.
The packging is great and a real joy to unpack.

The Nokia 8800 is a wonderful phone. To say that it is a waste of money is shortsighted. Its all about priorities, those that can afford the phone most probably already have a phone with a 3.2MP camera and 3G etc. and would probably use the functionality when needed. The 8800 is slick, stylish and in a class on its own.

I have had the Sirocco for a several weeks now and I have not had any of the battery longevity problems people describe with the original 8800. I have my bluetooth on all day and my battery has been giving me up to 3-days before I really need to charge it up again. I program my phone to go into sleep mode and along with a slightly larger battery, it no longer has an issue. The camera and music features, I dont care about. The dimples on the case are not as pronounced as the look in pics of this phone, more subtle, but help to hold the phone when talking. The bluetooth headset that comes with it, works really well, good volume and clarity. The menu set-up is different from my other nokia phones, got to get used to that. I bought my phone in Kuwait for about 980 USD, which for a new edition is about what you gonna pay for being an early adopter. But, I am planning on a long service life for my "silver bullet phone" I am so glad I held off buying the old 8800 phone and got the sirocco instead.

i've got a regular 8800 and for me it's my world i ADORE it, ho ever i am getting this sim free soon as possible, they are impossible to get hold of sim free! any one know where i acn get one in the UK? the camera on my normall 8800 really is'nt that bad becuase the overall display colours are so good - i've put loads of pictures from phone to pc and it really aint bad at all, so i'd like to try out the 2 meg pix cam. and as for the double memory of 128 from 64, thats great, as for mp3's i compressed the files so make them smaller to fit more on.
                can't wait!

I use Nokia 8800 and its design is nice. But real problem is that its battery lasts hardly one day if having a few calls! This is really a problem.

It´s beautiful, i now that are better phones but this one it´s a beauty.
I don´t have money to burn so i will not buy it. But i think it´s a major diference to the regural edition of 8800 in the camera. 2 megapixel it´s a lot for a phone so slim like the sirocco edition.
I agree with the the people that said that it´s a status phone and of course that there are a lot of phones cheaper and betteR.

people seem to be missing the point here, this phone is more of a status symbol than a functional object. its like buying a rolls royce instead of a bmw, its about statement.

waste of money. Even if I had money to burn I'd spend it on something more worthwhile. Give me an N73 or a 6233 over this any day. The money I save I can donate to charity.
