Samsung Galaxy A3 preview: First look

03 December 2014
Until recently Samsung was known for its all-plastic smartphone shells. Pressured to evolve their product design, they came up with the Galaxy Alpha, super slim smartphone with an angular metal frame. But Samsung surely likes to spread its design...

      You are pathetic.
A3 is better and more beautiful than iPhone6 with less than half price. Take it easy.

Price is too high, and specs are too low.

I wouldn't complain if Samsung either just priced their midrange phones too high, but had better specs.

But they are always too expensive AND have the specs of a much much cheaper phone. 960x540 resolution for 300 euro? Laughable.

Is not a bad phone, but Moto G 2014 is really much better, starting for the price, and 720p resolution...

Maybe it's just me, but the A3 looks nice. Some people buying their smartphones not because of the specs, but for their looks, considering what they do on the smartphones are not for game purpose. Some people are looking for some handy smartphone, you know, the smaller is better, but the market leaving us with just plenty options. I know, the price is ridiculous, but I could wait for another year.

And a lot of people buy a phone not knowing whether they will be able to afford a new one two years from now, or not caring about upgrades as long as the old one still works (and they paid a lot of money when it was new). For example Galaxy S II is from 2011 and people still use them. As for iPhones, they have a reasonably good support, but once the support is over they are useless as a smartphone, as you can't install anything any more on old iOS versions even though the phones might still work properly. So it depends on the case.

Since when is Alpha high end? A phone that is good isnt automaticly high end, high end means the very best of the best and Alpha is not. About this A3, it reminds me of those china clones for some reason, metal frame = bumper = 10$

If it's true, it's a miracle, how Samsung manage to make it without those fugly inserts that iphone5/5S/6/6 Plus have.
                    And keep such low price.

Flash memory only lasts for so many uses, anything mechanical can wear down, screens loose their vibrancy or burn in (aren't AMOLEDs particularly short lived) and so on. While user replaceable batteries (operative word being "user" I wonder if it's replaceable upon dismantling like older iPhones) are a bonus, it's only staving off obsolescence and terminal failure for a short while before something else goes.

That and all phones have inbuilt obsolescence by the very fact they'll be totally outclassed by something the same manufacturer produces a few years down the line.

"One thing that we can't quite agree with is the expected €300 price tag"
Seriously, can *anyone* agree with that price tag? What were Samsung thinking? For that price, one can buy the flagship killer OnePlus One and still have $120 left for more Christmas shopping!
I love Samsung products but they really need to come up with a mid-range device that can compete with the Moto G (2014) - either by offering the same or better specs for less money or offering better specs for the same price. As soon as Europeans and North Americans realize that they can purchase three Xiaomi RedMi Notes with far superior specs to the A3 for the same price, Samsung's mid-range phone strategy is toast.

No removable battery option means I'm out. This is a premium priced product with an expiry date. Planned obsolescence is not OK.

Bad, really bad phone. Terrible price/performance ratio. Genetic look doesn't help.qHD screen in that price range is some kind of bad joke.

Metal frame in low-end device doesn't make it better than what it is.

AGAIN - the price is just hilarious. You can buy an Nexus5 or 1+1 at this price point.

                                    A5 seems a better choice.
