The design still same as the previous generation (M8). A lot of people would like buy a high end smartphone because of the design. That's like a prestige things that they carry on with them. Elegant design smartphone which most people like.

Can anyone help me with their opinion as to whether go for a HTC ONE M9 or Samsung Galaxy A7 considering the overall package they offers?

Jenson, 09 Mar 2015The difference in size of the top and bottom speaker grills... morei have to say, i have no problem with square shaped rear camera. i kinda like it. it reminds me of my old HD2.
but on the speaker grills design, i agree with u. i like my m7 design more in that area.
i also like the navigation buttons to be embedded in the black bezel (like m7) or maybe users choice (like OnePlus One)

Hamid_zZz, 09 Mar 2015I think what the other user meant is, that M7 is still awes... moreThe difference in size of the top and bottom speaker grills of M9 and the square shaped rear cam makes it ugly.A "senseless" change by htc. That really makes it UGLY-undoubtedly...

AnonD-85149, 02 Mar 2015Your phone has got everything that m9 has , instead : the ... moreI think what the other user meant is, that M7 is still awesome, and we do not feel upgrading.
looks? i know, m9 looks better, but m7 still has the looks. still better looking than all non-htc phone out there.
material is important, but i wont change my phone JUST for material.
i have m7dual sim, so i have microSD card slot + dual sim option. (missing on m9)
although lack of 4g is bothering me on my phone.
CPU is better, yes. but we never felt any lack of power on m7. so why bother upgrading.
it has more RAM, but again, never felt lack of it. so no upgrade.
i charge my phone and tablet and laptop every day, and i have a power bank, so battery is not that big deal either.
If m9 had a camera combination like desire eye and IP cert. i would go for it.
what i'm trying to say is, one or two reasons, wont force me two give up on my beloved m7.

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2015Let's say we don't care about it all and want this phone, w... moreSence is BEAUTIFUL. No change in icons? they are already gorgeous. lollypop navigation icons are real ugly. i love htc icons. i hate my nexus7 ui! (5.0.2) but love my m7 UI(4.4.3, sense6)
sence has made a lot of improvement inside. thats what you are missing. instead of covering SH*% with a good looking touchwi$, htc has a great core, and a great view.
i think no one doubts that apple is successful. (i hate apple my self, not because of UI or etc, because of their strategies and how they look at a customer...) did u ever notice, how slow they move on changes in UI and Icons? or the phones design it self?
when something is awesome and working, why bother changing it? old users will be confused, new users wont understand. and there is a chance that u mess with it and make something good and working, a hell!!

I will buy it rightaway if htc launches it for 650$ unlocked in Bestbuy. Else would go for Galaxy S6 on AT&T contract.

Anonymous, 06 Mar 2015"The HTC One M9 is also a little shorter and less wide... moreM8 and M9 have asymmetric speaker grills and bezels that makes them ugly.in addition M9 has squarish rear cam which makes it worse. Rounded cam has been the good looking in the past, present and will be in the future. M7 is still the best in terms of looks especially with it's equal sized speaker grills which they achieved by placing the sensors and front cam on either side of the speaker grill on the top bezel.

"The HTC One M9 is also a little shorter and less wide than its predecessor. It measures 144.6 x 69.7 x 9.61 mm, compared to 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm on the One M8."
Wow, a whole 1.8 mm shorter and .9 mm less wide. Amazing! Of course, if they had gotten rid of the enormous bezel for the HTC logo below the screen, it would be 1 cm shorter. That would be an accomplishment. I guess because that bezel was hated so much on the M8, they decided to keep it to please the crowd.
*
That aside, this is a nice phone. I like that subtle design changes (though the original HTC One is still the best looking). I think it's a good idea to keep working on the same basic look and not changing it every time.
But no OIS is an embarrassment. It's become standard in serious flagship devices (Nexus 6, Nexus 5, LG G2 & G3, Galaxy S6, iPhone 6+, Lumia 830, 1520, & 1020). The irony is that HTC was early to the game with OIS in the HTC One, but for some reason decided to take a big step backwards and stay there. There's no way I'm paying $600 or more for a phone without OIS.
(The 1/2.3 sensor is nice though. At least they're keeping up with the jones there.)
I also assume that HTC will continue to use Qualcomm's mediocre Fluence noise cancellation, instead of the Audience chip they used way back in the One X and One X+ (and that Samsung still uses in the Galaxy and Note phones). Prepare yourself for less than stellar noise cancellation.
*
I think if HTC's strategy is to make pretty phones that have a premium feel in the hand, that's a fine idea. But, although they don't have to be the first with new technology, they need to keep up with at least the latest technology on all fronts, not just some areas. As it is, they have a couple spots (OIS, noise cancellation) where they're more than one generation behind the times.

So ... this is a pricier M8 with an square similar shitty camera ? or what !?
Shame on HTC - the design team was in vacation all year , and the tech team M.I.A. - also you can sell it with a bucket of DICE cooling , because it`s very hot piece of metal to use everyday ... and ... expensive

The same old design over past three years. What HTC is thinking ???? something new on the table is always appreciated. This phone no way can make some one to buy it instead of iphone 6 or the edgy Samsung 6.

it's not a bad looking phone. why's everyone so worked up about how it looks? granted it looks nearly identical to the previous two flagships, its design is the least of anyone's problem.
having said that, it's still pretty underwhelming. just like the xperia z3. as opposed to the m7, which was pretty cool, and the xperia z3 mini for sony, which is clearly the better choice.
