Archos 50 Diamond review: Emerald cut

1 April, 2015
It's the first time we have an Archos smartphone for review here at GSMArena but it isn't the first time we hear the French maker's name. For years now Archos has been churning out tablets with good specs for...

As stated the CEO of Archos in the press release, in 2014, there are few high-end less than 600 dollars. Thus the aim of this new device is to provide "any technology as advanced but accessible to the greatest number."

Can anyone tell me if this phone can support 2 4G-sim cards simultaneously, because some pictures on Archos official website show 4G connections on both networks. Is that possible anyways? Any phone has this feature today??

I like this phone except for three things. The capacitive home key isn't that responsive, I think this is because a double tap is needed to bring up recent apps (instead they have menu - pointless imo). Secondly the bezels are pretty big: it's wider and taller than my G2 which has a larger screen. Also the touch screen is a bit laggy, but I don't play many games so it doesn't really affect me. It's a shame because without these two issues this would be a solid device (1080p screen, support for two sims, support for up to 128GB SD micro cards, mid range chipset).

As always, a very good review!

Please try to complete the audio test - for me, it is a critical feature in a smartphone and nobody else reviews it.

I just received my 50 Diamond I ordered in France by Archos.Very nice design and good quality. color also very original. NewTee on this smartphone the first version Archos Fusion Storage consists in a user friendly expansion of Android phone/tablet storage space proposed at external SDcard insertion featuring : transparent fusion of internal storage and external sdcard : you can do it anytime and seamlessly (as opposed to hard internal storage/external SDcard switch)optimization of data/media and application storage : a migration process of internal data to external storage is proposed no file size limit even with FAT32 sdcard without reformatting : transparent to Android file splitting -smart storage management, user do not need to keep track of the location of a file : internal/external storage load balancing

Whether they are willing to actually update that's entirely another matter but using stock makes the whole process expedited. Most OEMs are so slow because of the crappy UIs/overlays.

Look at Motorola, ultra fast updates for any new OS release from Google.

its all well and good, and I've been waiting for a real review for months. so thanks for that. but I can find absolutely NO information as to when the damn thing will be available. I'm about ready to move on to something else, perhaps the ZTE Blade S6

Battery life is nothing great but acceptable, camera is very good and above average to the say the least. If it's priced right it is a good option for anyone on a budget given it's 5" size.
