Asus Zenfone 2 review: A balancing act

14 April, 2015
World domination was surely on the mind of at least one top exec over at Asus headquarters, when the crew gathered to outline the Zenfone 2 game plan. The smartphone will be sold globally...

Unbelievable...

How the hell are these OEMs putting such huge batteries in their phones at 1080p resolution but still getting much worse battery lives than the S6 with only a 2550 mAH battery with a frigging 1440p resoultion?

Use manual settings and then see the awesome pictures the phone produces. The same problem was in my dad's Zenfone 5 also.

Expecting more in terms of Battery, camera, overall cpu and gpu performance, not expecting to see those results.
My only hope is OnePlus Two...., in this price range

Marcel, 15 Apr 2015Quantify: your link does not work for me. Try a shortener ... moreHere is a shortened link to ZF2 images without image optimization: Auto, HDR, and Ultra Res. MUCH better than with the image optimization enabled.

Quantify: your link does not work for me. Try a shortener (bit.ly, etc)? I do want to see those images - best would be the same image with the optimiser ON as well as OFF, so we can see the same optimiser effect and compare more effectively the difference. (if that is already the case, then great!)

I am amused at the person saying that the G4 (I gather LG G4) is a bit cheaper than most high end phones today, when it has not been released and there are no prices. Also, zero comparison point with the Zenfone, which is mid-level, not high-level.

These phone camera and battery performence good are bad-----------

From my searching around with devices that have the same SoC, and OS and general model, but higher resolution, and I got these results for battery:

              44 hrs. vs 60 hrs. - Find 7/7a (7 has extra 200mAh/300MHz)
              48 hrs. vs 62 hrs. - Xperia Z/ZR
              53 hrs. vs 65 hrs. - Xperia Z1/Z1C (Z1 has extra 700mAh)
              85 hrs. vs 101 hrs. - Xperia Z3/Z3C (Z3 has extra 500mAh)

So as you can see, even with the larger batteries, in most cases these phones have noticeably inferior endurance. Based on this, I expect the ZF2 ZE550ML (720p) to have an endurance rating of about 75 hours or so.

I still think I'll get myself a Z3C once the new compact comes out and the price drops even further. I dunno, we'll see though. android 5.x is turning out to be kinda lame, just like iOS 8

                              hasn't been launched worldwide.
I am sure they'll fix some android 5.0 issues and camera issues with a software update after it is launched.

GSMarena plz update the 4GB RAM review after software update

Are you sure there's no problem with the device regarding brightness? You guys had brightness issues with S6 I think. Plz. check again.

for the camera test, I suggest turning OFF optimization. I had mine OFF with Zenfone 5 because of the "watercolor" effect it gives.
