Samsung Galaxy Note5 review: The 5blet

21 August, 2015
As the fourth successor of the product that defined what a phablet should be, Samsung Galaxy Note5 is arguably the most radical release in the product family to date. The newcomer marks a noteworthy departure (no pun intended) from all of its predecessors in terms of both design and available hardware features...

I will rather charge it on the go. So I don't get the fuss about any phone not having removable batteries. Using s6 edge 64gb and thinking about buying note5. After long time I feel Samsung performance is as fluid as Apple.

My first smart phone a iPhone, A friend gifted me the Note 3, My whole world changed. As a BUSINESS Person, it filled all my needs. Now, I feel the Note 5 has brought me LIMITATIONS, that's unacceptable. Why do I care about the great speaker sound or even how it looks or feels(keep the goodies, this is a business phone). No EXTRA STORAGE, how AM i suppose to move around with my BUSINESS PROJECTS. I CANT CHANGE THE BATTERIES. Few months back a fuse went out on my building and the phone battery burned out... Imagine that happening now. A TOTAL STEP DOWN, two of my co'workers have returned the device already.

Samsung Note 5 is indeed impressive with its new functions and whatnot. Here's some key likes and not likes about this phone I got slightly more than a month ago.

                Likes:
                - Instant note taking
                - Good camera (both front and back)
                - various built in shortcuts such as making the screen smaller for you to operate on a single hand.

                Dislikes:
                - Lag (yeah, the best record was 2 whole seconds)
                - When it hangs (I don't use my phone much but it hanged on me twice and like leggit, even the lock key didn't work. I just left it there for like 10 mins then it went back to normal)
                - When you use the battery till like 1%, the phone shuts off and goes into reset mode. While your contacts and stuff are still there, any personalisation is gone and you have to do this special button pressing (While charging, press the lock key and the volume button and hold, to switch it on again)
                - No inbuilt radio?? (I can't find any so far and have to download)
                - Data transfer via Smart Switch is not possible with models beyond (and including) Samsung S2

This is my view, feel free to disagree. Hope this was useful.

It's the best phone for 2015 if you do not factor in price. There is no other phone which offers as much productivity and features as the Note5 with the same speed. I decided to purchase the Note5 and see for myself what the difference was between my Xiaomi Mi Note Pro with a SD 810 and the Note5 with its Exynos 7420. The difference is night and day. Everything is much snappier, battery life is much better, and the build quality is better.

For all those complaining about no microSD card, please research why they couldn't do it. The new storage they use, UFS 2.0, is not compatible with microSD cards. UFS 2.0 is way faster than emmc 5.1 which nearly every other manufacturer uses. It is a fair trade-off imo. Just check the benchmarks yourself and even try it out in a store.

I'm not impressed one bit because of the absence of a humidity meter and thermometer to flank the barometer just as was done in the SGN3. I'm a weather freak.

No possibility for a memory card expansion, NOT BUYING!! Hear that, Samsung? First the USB 3.0 was gone and now this? What Samsung is aiming for? To make the note more like an I Phone? Unlimited cloud storage? Gimme a break! My carrier allows only 5GB of data transfer per month and this is the best we have here in Brazil. I think it's time to migrate to another brand, but for now I'm keeping my Note 3. I hope the Note 5 flops!

Anonymous, 04 Oct 2015The GN5 looks great and is quicker. Downsides compared t... moreThe Exynos chip in the Note 5 is much much much better than the Snapdragon in the Note 4. It also brings much better audio quality with it.
Also the camera lense and processing has improved and night shots are a decent bit better.
It's overall a much smoother device with a cleaner system UI.
                                  Built in system theming.
Most people love the new design and materials aside from what it changed. It's more ergonomic with back curves and thinner. Easier to use. Less wide.
Most report better battery life. Wireless charging.
The clicking Spen. New software and features.
Improved display. Obviously probably not that noticeable since the Note 4 was still tied to the S6 with World's best.
The extra 1GB of ram and solid state internal memory. DDR and Gorilla Glass 4.
The speaker is quieter for some reason, but better quality. I understand the trade off, but they also used a more powerful 1.2watt speaker compared to the 1watt one.
Verizon one and maybe ATT might actually receive root unlike the Note 4. They already did but doing so stops the device from turning on. There is a decent chance they can eventually get around this.

On the downside would be no removable battery or sd slot.
They took out the IR blaster..."remote sensor".
Maybe a few less features. Some of the newer phones don't seem to have group play for instance. Or have it, but not the video share feature....Which really upset me and some people I know. And root access and some working around seems to be the only to attempt to fix that.

Downsides compared to the GN4 are:

Storage is only 32GN in some countries, 64GB in others, no 128GB available.
The back is glass and doesn't do as well when dropped.
