Lenovo Vibe Shot review: Shoot to thrill

29 December, 2015
The Vibe series often breathes fresh air into the stale smartphone design segment and the Lenovo Vibe Shot wants to serve double duty by trying to break into the difficult high-end smartphone photography market as well.

Anonymous, 01 Jan 2016You're disappointed that the SD615 was used in a $350 hands... moreIt was used on the Mi 3. And that is only a sub 200 dollar phone.

I'm sorry I dont trust the battery tests. Its just PR for a big manufacturer just to keep them happy. I have been using smartphones since Windows OS phones around 2003 and I know what I am doing. The battery is not good no matter what I tried. If someone else has this phones please tell me whats the battery life like. If its good then its my bad luck to get a phone from a bad batch. My experience with Lenovo phones has been amazing. This is the first and only model I ever had a problem with.

Phone is great specs and build quality wise. But battery is ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE! I dont know if this is battery issue or ROM issue but as an office phone for daily use I was only able to use for a few days before I threw it back in the box more than a month ago and went back to my old phone. I literally saw the battery draining every other minute. No activity, no media no nothing and still the battery was draining. Such a good phone with such a nonsense battery issue, Using LG G4 right now but also not so impressed with it as a flagship. Too many small ROM issues.

Early 2015 it was "wow" enough.
Going into 2016 it underwhelms, especially that Sd 615 is so mediocre.

What's the in call quality like?

There is no 4K video because the SD615 is not capable of properly recording 4K videos, simply to put it neither the GPU nor the CPU are powerful enough, and you end up paying Lenovo lots of money for a phone that is only good for taking photos.
Instead of putting 3GB of RAM they could have put 2 and an SD808 in there or X10(which is the cheapest 4K recording capable SoC available and performs plenty faster than the SD615).

Maybe the only feature this phone lacks, especially being named "Shot", is optical image stabilization.

There is something that Android lacks as a whole and Lenovo is in an unique position to offer and that is a ThinkPad phone. There is no need for the next high end phone with "unique" features. A ThinkPad phone should have upper midrange hardware, rugged but at least semi-elegant build, good repair-ability with swappable battery, enterprise security and connectivity features built in (storage encryption, fingerprint scanner for example) and a guaranteed software support for a set number of years (5 years is a good start).

If you upgrade from a 2013/4 phone (Xperia Z/Z1, Galaxy S4, HTC one M7/M8) this is a great buy. Get the same 1080p screen, and 1080p video rec, with vastly improved camera. However you could also get the Galaxy S5 or Xperia Z3 with 2160p video recording and a 1080p 60FPS mode on both. The selfie camera on this Lenovo is way better though, with 8 Mpx vs 2 on the above phones.
