Until recently, internally, Sony departments operated separately, and at times decisions were also made to not drop market sales for other product lines...

Eg they could make killer audio phones that remove consumer 'need' for seperate Walkmans.. But they would not.
When internal company structures change, given the time it takes to develop a product for market, it can take a year or so before consumers see the benefits..

I would have preferred questions to have been focused on the audio chipset/internal amplifier and DAC (digital to analogue) setup.

To be fair as long as my next phone has a nice headphone output, I will put up with silly spec'd cameras and stupid screen resolutions.

Unfortunately Sony learned decades ago that consumers play the marketing game, and buy based on specification; NOT real world usage.

So they sell us stuff that 'bragging rights' and misinformed people buy into.

A 2GB RAM (that has a very fast operating speed) with a 10 megapixel camera with a high quality lens (flush with phone body, or a slide over lens cap), with one of these custom CPUs (some functions able to be relegated to low power cpu cores), in a sealed body (for waterproofness, without plastic 'caps'), with a scratch proof glass, at around five inches of screen space a full high def screen (which resolves better than my eyes see at typical viewing distance) and a killer headphone output (not Dolby headphone, but a high quality amp and dual DAC, or high quality single DAC design)..would be my preferred HIGH END/premium device.

Keep the OS free of bloat. And voila... You wouldn't sell this perfect phone to anyone cause the misinformed would be telling everyone that the new XX beats it in spec.

      ...?.???

C'mon; as consumers we vote with our $
We drive the market to selling us crap.

More ram, and faster CPUs does not make the phone lag free... That is software and optimisation.
All phones have specs in overkill, but they rarely get the kinks ironed out and we buy a new device cause it sounds like it is going to be better.

And as for us always changing our devices; we hardly set them up to perform the way we want cause it takes awhile to do that.

I have a friend with a flagship HTC phone from years ago. And she does more with her phone than I generally do with a galaxy note edge.

She has inspiring posters on a few of her desktops, most callers have unique graphics and ringtones applied. She trusts her torch (her app install didn't ask for 'super user' permission), and is super productive.
It might be single core with a gig of ram, but you would never know.
She still gets days out of her battery per charge and we live rural with poor reception.

Anyhow spec sheets and marketing BS does not a happy phone user make (unless the pride and 'bragging rights' is a fulfilling feeling for the user.

Their response to the camera question is so disappointing. More press need to ask them that question so that they realise their image processing is crap.

AnonD-207445, 23 Feb 2016what kind of bullshit their rep said there about the camera... moreAgreed. Sony can do amazing things if they care more on software side of their cameras in Xperia phones.....

I thought they would ask about the future of the Z Series, is the X Performance replacing the Z5? Is there going to be a Z6? Questions like that. And by the way, that answer about the camera was pathetic, I mean, the pictures should look amazing, no matter where are they being viewed, come on Sony.

what kind of bullshit their rep said there about the camera =_=
just be honest, you (Sony) don't want your mid-low Cybershot pocket cam market to be intruded by your Xperia products....

don't get me wrong, i have a Z5 and a Sony RX100, i also own an LG G4 and tell ya, G4 is just as sharp as Z5 with that older tech tho noise was kinda terrible on G4's side.
Xperia might be catching up in terms of quality, but we all know they can do much better than that if they tried

You don't get what he said about pic quality? He meant: when you ~enlarge~ photo to the bezels(fullscreen) in phone or computer, shots look awesome. (so No enlarging beyond that on phone/computer). ...also reason why take/watch default 8Mp shots (from that 21/23/25Mp camera) on 3820x2160(8Mp) screen. As bonus, shots look better after zoooooming than they did in Z3. Only shame is that they don't support full manual(so it shoot how You set it) and raw(?). (raw in phones is now about 3years?...as for manual shooting 4years).

"The official answer is that Sony cameras are optimized for "performance." Performance meaning how photos and videos from the camera look great both on the phone's screen and on a computer screen."

Great? seriously? Someone should show the Sony engineers the comparison between pics taken by Galaxy S7 and Xperia Z5. The difference is day and night.

I am excited about new line of Sony x but for fuck sake this answer: "The official answer is that Sony cameras are optimized for "performance." Performance meaning how photos and videos from the camera look great both on the phone's screen and on a computer screen. The selfie camera, in particular, has been tuned to view on large screens." And what it is not optimised to look on the smaller screens? Does that also mean other manufacturers are better at optimising "performance" factor ? :)
