LG G5 vs G4 vs. iPhone 6s vs. GoPro: Camera shootout

23 February, 2016
One thing is for sure, LG didn't play it safe - the LG G5 turned V10's dual-camera setup 180°. Unlike previous dual-camera setups, this one allows users to capture photos with a traditional FoV, wide-angle shots or both at the same time. We did an impromptu shootout with both G5 cameras, pitting them against various well-respected opponents.

Duel, 24 Feb 2016Nice to see that 6s can easily keep up with G5. But it's... moreThe 6S camera is horrible when compared to the 950XL in low light situations.

I think the G5 now has good dynamic range. They just have to decrease the noise level without sacrificing quality and it can probably beat my 950 XL.

This comparison is kind of pointless knowing that all devices above would be humiliated by Samsung S7 (and probably majority even by S6). Or this now like - "lets not compare apples with oranges"? aka Samsung is just so far ahead any comparison becomes kind of irrelevant?

G4 camera is slightly better than G5 but G5 has the upper hand because of other things

AnonD-488242, 23 Feb 2016Is it only me or I see that G4's pictures are slightly bete... moreNo it's not you, you are right, others must be blind or on board the "newer is better" train...
You have to look at low light samples (inside the complex) because in those conditions you can really see how the image processing/algorithms have been tuned.

You can see that the iPhone 6s (the less capable) has more or less the same output than the G5, with people faces smudged by the noise cancellation. The faces just look like an oil painting, it is really bad even if the effect is a bit less pronounced on the G5.

On the other hand, while still not perfect, faces on the G4 look more natural, without that horrendous watermark effect you can clearly see with the iPhone 6s and G5 images.
External shots are good with all three handsets of course as there is plenty of light.
It is funny to see all the praise on G5 five cameras when you clearly see that the quality is not there... It is even more visible if you compare the shots done with the Galaxy S7 the same day with the same low light conditions, they are much better with the S7...

So you are right, one has just to look and compare the low light shots and the difference will jump out of them, at least if they remain honest...

Please make a low light camera comparison between LG G5 and Galaxy S7.

We know that unlike the V10, the G5 does not have manual video controls. Does S7 have?

Nice to see that 6s can easily keep up with G5.

But it's not surprising because we are in point where improvements can be very small anymore. These cameras are very good already, only place where you can see big improvements is low light photos, because there's still much to do.

Why compare it with Iphone 6s camera? Iphone 6s shots look bad, they have a very ugly reddish filter.

As hard as they hoped to top the 41MP sensor of 1020... moreI agree the 808 and 1020 have both excellent cameras but in the case of the 1020 unless you're taking a picture of a rock or something that is not moving the 1020 sucks bad. Also shot to shot times are so slow, I have a LG G4 and the camera on that is just as good as 1020, my opinion of course.

As hard as they hoped to top the 41MP sensor of 1020 and especially 808, they still failed to this day.. The 808/1020 will still remain the best camera on a phone for at least 3 years to come

AnonD-488242, 23 Feb 2016Is it only me or I see that G4's pictures are slightly bete... moreNope it is definitely not just you, I noticed this right away from the first samples they put out for the G5. The details are simply not there, lacks sharpness, too much noise reduction.

The same goes for the S7 samples, none of the flagships so far have anything good to talk about compared to the immediate previous flagships from both camps.

The LG V10 looks peerless by a wide margin at this point in time, save for the Lumix CM1 which we cant consider a smartphone since it is more like a Phone attached to a Digicam.

Not bad. While it appears that the s7 has the better camera compared to the g5 (unless objective tests confirm otherwise), the latter certainly isn't a slouch in that department at all. Pretty awesome camera quality if you ask me.

Logically you will use wide angle shots more than you think... When the function presents its self it will be very usefull for you...

                                        Waterproof = a big LOL...

                                        Ir blaster = very usefull

Removable battery = is a must unless you change phones annualy.

When it comes to camera quality they will both be within a small % of each other...

Face reality and dont manifest a bias conclusion. I love samsung and LG, I have their products right through my home.

Logically LG you have won the race! Not by a lot but well done!
