Sony Ericsson P1 review: A smart sharp-shooter

08 May 2007
The Sony Ericsson P1 is an exciting new smartphone that is to be included in Sony Ericsson portfolio. Powered by Symbian OS and featuring a QWERTY keyboard, a touchscreen TFT display with QVGA resolution and a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, it represents the next level of the development of UIQ smartphones. As such, it seems that the Sony Ericsson P1 will be the flagship of Sony Ericsson smartphone line overrunning even the Sony Ericsson P990 and we were more than curious to find out how it performed in real life.

in reply to the question about anti virus.Firstly "all OS-based phones" encompasses all phones, not just smartphones, as all ohones run on an operating system. It is true that symbian phones can recieve viruses, but they are extremely rare at the moment, and can ONLY install themsleves on your if you say yes when it asks u to install 'a mysterious application'. i have had a nokia N73 (symbian based) and installed 100s of applications created by untrusted sources, and my antivirus software has never beeped, or mentioned anything. this means one of 2 things: viruses are so rare, there is no point having anti virus software, or the antivirus doesnt work so theres no point buying it.

I've had my P1 for about 2 weeks now, Does anyone with the P1 think that the reception is not so good? I just replaced a W810 which was awesome. I also never really used the web on any of my other phones, but as for the P1 it seems kinda slow. The P1 is pretty cool but reception, web, and switching between applications is a bit slow. Anyone experiencing this?

I just got my P1i last night.
As I know, all the OS-based mobile phones need an anti-virus program. So, does P1 also need an anti-virus program? And can tell me where to get it from?

        Thanks

Go to sonyericsson.com to retrieve your operator's GPRS settings.

You should disable your WLAN if you want your battery to last longer

I also have the same problem with the M600 whereby you cannot search the Contacts by field (you could with the P900!). It's a BIG problem. And I also have problems with the sms time stamp. I receive 2 different times from 2 different mobile networks and neither is correct. I would love to find a solution to both of the above. Someone HELP...

Hi, Just got my p1 for my wife. successfully tranfering all contact from her 910i via Btooth. However searching contact(address book) in P1, is not as convinient as in 910i. No tab of 1st letter of contact name "ABC" DEF", no way to search in all field of contacts. Pls advice if there is any add on. Is its because new symbian. I experience in my Nokia 90 as well. Thanks
