Meizu Pro 6 review: Changing lanes

23 May, 2016
Meizu's Pro series has always been about the full flagship experience. Big high-res screens, top-notch chipsets and advanced imaging all wrapped in a fancy package with a teasing price tag.

AnonD-173026, 24 May 2016Keep dreaming bruh. Its not dreaming. The proof is there. Maybe you're the one dreaming mate. Apple has been coping Meizu from MX3 and MX4

I really liked the Pro 5, best phone I ever owned, mainly for the great battery life and the home button which doubles as a back button - just a light tap to go back and swipe up from the bottom to show recent apps. Still, I felt it was too big for me and wanted to try a 5.2 inch phone next but I was put off by the Pro 6's small battery and the weight - 160 grams is heavier than some 5.5 inch phones (LG G3 - 149 grams). So, I bought the Xiaomi Mi5 instead. Very happy I did - even better battery life than the Pro 5 and only 129 grams. Finally, I just learned from this review that the Pro 6's force touch feature would not work with a different launcher. I always install Nova on a new phone so, if I had bought the Pro 6, I would be paying for a feature I couldn't use.

The only ovepriced and cheap built phone is the Iphone.

          Mediatek,

Your overclocked X25 10 cores can't even beat 8 cores Kirin/Exynos... You should be ashamed of yourself. Are you still going to boast of your X30 performance?

Suggest you not to, because Qualcomm and Samsung will force your X30 to become next year's mid-ranger instead of "high-end"... AGAIN

Are you sure your chipset is "High-end" with only less than 0.3 GPU power of other high end chipsets?

HAHAHA. that says it all. not amazing or stellar or fabulous or really good. not ALL bad after all. but the majority of it isnt great. HAHAHA

for shame Meizu! you can do WAY better.

MTK manufactures and sells its chipset cheaply to OEMs and if they were to offer a competition against those mentioned in the Top tier, they should upgrade their GPU performance (CPU performance is no doubt at par) but still manage to keep the prices down (that's why I disagree with Meizu Pro 6's price range... MTK devices are known for their budget prices)

That's why, if we compare the price and benchmarks, Im eyeing for the Le Max 2 or Xiaomi Mi5 Pro

Samsung's Exynos is quite the contender as well but the price is just too much.

I also have the NVIDIA K1 Tablet and the Graphic Performance is still the best but if we go for overall function (including calls and SMS), any device with QSD 820 is still the better choice.

Performance - yes, it can deliver.
Hi-res Videos (1080p above) - yes, it plays smooth without lags
Simple 2D games - yes, the gameplay was fine.
Simple 3D games - Tolerable; you will experience lags here and there when playing or loading Candy Crush, Farmville 2 or the likes. Same experience with the writer, we're not sure if it's because they're not able to handle the GPU framerate or if it's the GPU clock
Complex 3D Games and Emulators (PS, PS2, NDS, Sega Saturn, etc) - A BIG NO!
Its GPU is NOT meant for these games and applications. Again, same with the writer, we're not sure if it's because they're not able to handle the GPU framerate or if it's the GPU clock

Given that experience, I am thinking that the experience with the Helio X25 and this device will only be limited to casual surfing, media playing, and common call/sms usage with apps not requiring high GPU specs.

For its specs, I disagree with the price.
Currently, depending on the seller, the price is between US$50-100 more than the Le Max 2 and the ZUK Z2 Pro where the 2 latter devices have the QSD820 and 6GB RAM.
I think the price for Meizu Pro 6, given that it's using MTK Helio X25, should be lower.

Btw, the GPU is not that weak, it's the same GPU Huawei P9 and Mate 8 using and they still able to performance.

57h endurance is f***** up. However, I think the real culprit behind is the Helio x25.
Not only it drained the battery too quick, also it sucks in terms of performance and gaming, go look on the Youtube for Pro 6 gaming test you will know what I am talking about.
The high score in Antutu versus the low performance in real means that this SOC is only created for the sake of scoring in benchmark testing. All show and no go, what a shame for Mediatek.
