Apple iPhone 7 Plus review: Hail to the king, baby!

12 October 2016
The iPhone 7 Plus hardly needs an introduction. Apple's preciousnesses always get the proper attention no matter what the company changed - just one pin or the whole thing. Controversy has always been part of Apple's knowhow and the polarized opinions have always tipped the odds in the iPhone's favor.

After getting my refund from note 7 return I compared the iPhone 7 (& Plus) with S7edge (in hand). The Samsung totally trumped the iPhone. Better screen, less wasted space, better multitasking (multi window) , definitely better camera, nfc which can be used for bank tap and pay (not third party like Samsung, Apple or Android pay). I'd rather wait for the next Samsung.

The Note 7 makes the iPhone 7 Plus look like a phone from 3 years ago. It's not even a fair comparison...

"1080p videos provide high enough quality to be considered usable in the age of 4K."

What a preposterous comment. Even among gamers who are crazy about resolutions Steam survey shows that only about 5% of people use 4k monitors, 1080p is by far still the king owned by a vast majority of people, even 2k is lagging far behind. Age of 4k? Where? On TVs? Not even there, not to mention a big lack of 4k movies to watch on those TVs. Owning a 4k TV currently is nearly useless as there is not much 4k content around, movies, tv shows and the like dont come in 4k yet and probably wont come for a while, choice of 4k content to watch is very very limited at the moment. Macintosh? 4k just arrived on 22" iMac and Macbooks do not have 4k monitors. And you still think 1080p is "usable"? Age of 4k is not even close, we are still well into 1080p age only slowly moving towards 2k and 4k on computers, 4k wont become today's 1080p for at least 3-5 years, only when mid range GPUs become powerful enough to run modern games at 4k will people start migrating to 4k, and not many will buy 4k monitors to surf the Internet on them. Currently they are bought by gamers with money to spare and people involved in some kind of production work that needs lots of screen space, 95% of others do not have 4k.

Also, it was reported on CNN Apple Byte a few months ago.

I am not naive to the thought Bluetooth is better than wired, I will always go for wired connection where possible, but the Bluetooth adaptor I am using (Sony SBH-54) works fine & gives a good audio output & an inexpensive (£15) pair of Bluetooth earphone I purchased are also good, lack some base but good.

This isn't a price, a performance, or a number matter.

Every single apple product has a Soul. Yeah a Soul, like a supercar, like a high end automatic watch, like a monument.

Motorola eliminates the 3.5mm headphone jack and no complaints, nothing said. Apple eliminates the jack and it becomes headline news. Wireless charging, fast charging, wireless fast charging, etc. all cause excessive heat which is deadly to electronic components especially batteries. The Note 7 fiasco should be a lesson to us all, yet hard headed people are so fanatically bent on achieving their vanity and bragging rights that they refuse to admit that some aspects of technology just aren't ready yet for prime time. True "wireless" charging is not sticking a phone on top of a "wired" charger. Your phone is still restricted to that charger and it's location so it's actually less useful than having the phone plugged into a wire. On top of it all, it exposes the electronic components including the already fragile battery to needless excessive heat, and lets not forget all of the wasted energy from all that heat. What good is your feature packed phone (of which most of those features are merely heat creating bragging rights gimmicks anyway) if there's a constant risk of it firebombing in your pocket, car, home or on an air flight?
